Just seems strange to me. GT shells work okay at 21.5 blinky speeds. Much quicker than that and most of the shells straight up suck.

Do you still disagree 100% Martin?

I'd be lying if I said no..... however I preface that with there are a couple other shells that work as well. Unfortunately, not being popular, we haven't really put in the testing time to see what other bodies work as well.

I mis-spoke, my Speed Passion ESC is a V2.0

But seriously, I like 5.5's on tracks under 120 ft. They can be made to have plenty of top end and are far more driveable than lower winds at low speed. They tend to allow you to mash the throttle a bit harder. They will never feel like a 17.5, but they will be pretty smooth once you get up to speed.

I like some boost with the 5.5 along with a smaller pinion. Typically I gear around a 20/84 on my T4 on a 110 ft straight. I like to play around with my boost curve (start and end rpm) to make sure I can control when it kicks in. I run start 6k to 8k - end 20k to 24k RPM and play with that range. Turbo is used for top speed and boost is used sort of as the "punch" or the "power" of the car. On this 110ft track I use about 20 degrees of boost and 10 degrees of Turbo. All of this is with a HW V3.

I also like using anywhere form 7-10% of negative throttle curve to mellow out the rip when I first get on it.

However, all of this is useless if the motor is not the right one and it is not tuned right. Some motors make a lot of bottom end. Some are way smoother. Tekin Gen 2's are super smooth. Orion and Peak Previous gen motors are very powerful. Reedy is somewhere in between. If your track is smallish, try something like a Tekin and/or don't use a lot of end bell timing if you don't like violent power engagement. Start at 0 and adjust slowly until you feel comfortable.
Cristian or anyone, maybe you can help. With my SP ESC I can't change the start/end RPM for boost. It gives me the option to change the rate of timing, and the amount. It shows a fixed RPM start of 1000, and that option is greyed out when I use the tuner on my laptop. There also isn't an option to change it when I have the HW tuner box plugged in, alone.

I'm going to try using a little boost this weekend. Last two times out I just geared it as if it had no timing, and put in 6° of turbo, and had a .6 sec delay, as if it was a high gear that only kicked in on the straight. So, I backed off the endbell timing, geared down a bit, and am going to try running a little boost. I'm using a Reedy 5.0, in a TC6.1 on a small/mid size asphalt track. NorCal Hobbies to be exact.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I don't want to make the car undriveable, but it was a bit sluggish in the infield with the settings prior.

Thanks

I had read on the SP thread a while back that this was the controller to use. I think HW makes SP.

Which speed passion esc is it? If it is a HW based GT2.1 I would download the latest software from HW or speed passion for it. You should be able to adjust the start timing and then you calculate the end RPM by the deg/rpm adjustment.

1000 rpm is too low to start. You should be looking at an 8k-12k rpm start with 750 rpm/deg. Boost should be 10-18 deg and turbo should be adjusted for top speed.

How big is your track?

Sorry, dis not read it's norcal. Boost would start at like 15 deg and turbo around 10.

Speed Passion Pro Gran Turismo Ver 2.0. I'll check for an update.

I downloaded the newest software for the controller. I still can't get those options. The boost start and boost ACC options are greyed out. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

It has to do something to do with your other settings. Is it maybe set for sensorless?

Yes. TC4 gears would melt with anything less than a 10.5.
