I would imagine the SuperGT NSX & SC430 would be the best. But they have heavy plastic wings that don't produce as much down-force as a typical touring car wing. This is all speculation on my part...

Hi Folks,

I am looking to get some hop ups for my TA05 for racing. I could care less about looks. I am just going for durability and function.

Here is what I am looking at

1 - Top Cad Alloy Motor Mount - I have the stock one in now and it gets very hot. That said my motor still runs very cool. I think Top Cad is going to stop producing these as I watch the stock get lower and lower but not being replaced. Is there an advantage for racing for this piece? How much of an upgrade do you think it would make?

2 - Top Cad Alloy Center Steering Set - My steering isn't smooth right now and it has got some slop. I think this is a must upgrade. I noticed it doesn't come with bearings. What bearings will I need? I don't want to go with yeah raching as I have bought some alloy parts from them that turned out to be softer than the plastic with the kit.

3 - I am looking to adjust my steering, would you suggest the sway bar set, or the carbon fiber damper stays?

4 - I don't think I am going to upgrade over the stock shocks just yet. I like the plastic spacers over the threaded shocks, because I get a precise setting every time. I have had trouble with threaded shocks in the past loosing there settings.


Any thoughts would be appreciated. Remember I need function and durability.... not pretty and blingy!

As for Tamiya bodies, I've tried the Mobil 1 SC, ARTA NSX, Raybrig NSX, and the Calsonic Z. The NSXs are pretty good and durable, but yes, they lack a little bit of rear downforce which is apparent under higher speeds with the stock rear wings. The Mobil 1 SC was a bit better than the Calsonic Z; I wouldn't use either of those again, though.

Well, I normally try and do some sort of motorsport replica on my scale bodies, but for my racing bodies, I have a scheme I always stick to.

I painted these two bodies for the special race a few weeks ago when Japans' #1 TRF factory driver Maezumi Satoshi came down to race with us. Since hobby shop SIRO is hosting this event, and is an authorized Tamiya Factory Project shop, the owner gave me TEAM SIRO decals to represent at the track.

I did up the bodies using a Tamiya Factory colored paint scheme, in my signature race design (because it’s fast, easy, repeatable, and has high contrast making it easy to see on the track). Afterwards, I had Meazumi-san sign the windshield with a Sharpie.

In any event, I present to you, the TEAM SIRO Subaru Legacy, and MazdaSpeed 6:

I just picked up my son and I a pair of used TA05's one's a 'R'

Just trying to get some idea on set up starting points. We are going to run USVTA on a high grip indoor carpet track.

Here are the motor/power combos they allow, hope this helps any advice given.

27t brushed/4-cell: 5.4 - 5.7 FDR
17.5 brushless/4-cell: 3.5 - 3.7 FDR
21.5 brushless/LiPo: 4.2 - 4.3 FDR

Guys, I'm just starting to get my 05r on the track, was using my friend's Sorex 40R, and they handle good on our track (outdoor asphalt). He's not sure what inserts he has as he got them used. Anyway, I got my own, but not sure which insert to use. Sorex has quite a few types, Type A, B, C, etc. Know of any FAQ I can read up on inserts?

Has anyone installed the new very cool 54083 - Short Reversible Suspension Set on a TA05 or R??? And if so did the 46mm driveshafts fit?
I guess you have to get the 44mm like the 416 uses.

it really depends on which suspension blokcs you are using. i am using the 46mm bones just fine with most setups

What makes the short arms the hot ticket? Do they narrow the trackwidth, and if so, why does this help?

Im going to run D's up front becuase I still like good front width.
And probably around A - XB in the back.

The short arms are meant to give less body roll, more mechanical grip and quicker reacting.
I think they will suit rubbers with thin inserts since these have less side grip.

Hi Guys,

What's the difference between running the 36t vs. the 37t pulleys aside from the gear ratio? Advantages or disadvantages of one over the other. I'm planning on changing my ta05 36t pulleys to the ifs-r version pulleys.
