Not at all...

If you have someone just behind you who is fast enough to keep within sight, but not fast enough to catch and pass, it only takes one corner dot, or one wall tap to get them right on your rear bumper.

I'm going to agree with Gary on this one. If you know your faster, and know that they're only on your butt because of a little oops.. Race on! If they are clearly faster, while your on your A-Game.... let them pass!

I've been running some oval and a bit of 1/12 this winter. I've noticed much, much more contact in the carpet racing than I've ever seen in off road. I found that strange. But could be b/c the track is smaller, and the cars stay closer together. Plus with lap times that are half that of offroad you come up on lapped traffic much more.

But it does seem the drivers are just not as careful.

If your qualifying, you are only slowing up yourself and the faster guy by blocking. Pick a spot that is clean for both, and give him room. That doesn't mean pulling over and parking your car like some people expect everyone else to do for them. Remember, qualifying is qualifying.

If your in a race, you usually know who the fast and slow guys are after awhile. Gary said it great earlier. Have courtesy and use your brains. If they are realy faster, you will build a much better reputation as the guy who runs clean AND smart. Better than being the idiot who took out the top 2 or 3 cars because you were driving over your head. Also, running a tight line to make the guy work to go around you is one thing when battling for a position in the main, making your car three feet wide to keep them behind is another. When a person does that, there bumper is far game in my book. If your unlapping yourself, better do it clean. Remember, you are UNLAPPING, not battling for position with them.

It all comes down to use your brains, and give other drivers the same courtesy you expect from them. Do watch out for the fast guys in qualifying who like to call out to someone only slightly slower when there still half a lap behind. Best thing to do is talk to them on the stand. Let them know you see then coming and talk to them about where to pass you. A little (positive)communication on the drivers stand goes a long way.

This is true. I was on the track yesterday with a bunch of mini coopers for awhile practicing. Track director said it was agreed that 1/12's and the coopers would take turns running for a bit. But I told the coops I didn't mind them on the track with me. Boy do they slam around. But I think it's good practice. I don't like how some guys think a new driver shouldn't be in the same qual or race as them. I look at it as if you are on the track with less quality drivers, then you need to pay more attention. Guys who run up another cars rear b/c it's on their line and they think they should've moved over, well a true better driver can get around and deal with having to get off line for a bit.

Yeah it's supposed to be set up by driver abiltiy. But there will always be somebody faster or slower. That's why it's racing right? But intentionally holding someone up when it's not going to affect you either way is wrong.

It all depends on the attitude of the club.
Not the club owners but everyone in it.
where i race in the uk there some club which bash the hell out of each other and break cars no one gives a dammn.
Their other clubs where if you hit somebody you are expected to wait until they get past to carry on the race. Or if you end up half arcross the track cause you made a mistake or got knocked across the track to your advantage; you are expected to wait: until the guy that was in front of you gets ahead.
Same with lapping most guys give a wide berth as they don't want to ruin everyones lap from crashing into each other. This is due to the fair play attitude and the fact we are all friends when we come of the podium.
Winning should be about winning on your own merit ,not luck or bullying everyone out of your way.
Either way i know which club i prefer to run and have fun at, and talk to people.

Offroad has bigger penalties driving-wise when you touch (colliding I assume is a bit more well-handled with the tougher car). Since the wheels are not only open, but knobbed or ridged, if two racers side by side were to touch tires, one would get thrown as his tire grabbed the other truck's tire and was slung forward by the combined torque of both tires.

It's kinda the same reason open-wheel racers like Indy cars and F1 avoid contact; it's fatal. In NASCAR or GT racing, you can rub sides and bump bumpers with only a few scratches since the tires and suspension are protected by the body shell.
