I gear the 17.5 at 3.5 and the 13.5 at 4.3 Fdr. I do run a fan on the motor. I run the hobbywing v3.1 speed control. I run 40-45 degrees of timing on the motors.
Thanks for sharing your insight.

I just ordered a Schuur Speed 21.5 v3 for USGT. I hope I have made a good decision? Any input is appreciated.

Default 17.5 V3 in a B44.3

Anyone got experience running a B44.3 with 17.5 V3??

I'm running 72/31 gearing and about 38 deg end bell timing. Temp is getting to 165-170 after 5 min. Too hot for my liking.

On the same track with a B5m I run 72/34 with 45 deg end bell and only hit around 140.

Thinking I have to either reduce end bell timing or gearing before I damage the motor.

Lots of possible variations between two cars to get the gearing figured out. Get the motors checked on a motor checker first, and then weigh your vehicles + drivetrain rotational mass before you start gearing/temp checking, laptime lowering, etc...

In my unprofessional opinion, 165 to 170 degrees is fine, and allows for unsuspected problems such as ambient temperature changes.
