I like that all the tracks in the Southeast use the same USVTA rules...good to know Thunder ,One Lug, and Hotshots are all on the same page...USVTA page

I appreciate the responses about my motor question, next go around I'll probably go for the Ballistic, but I'm still anxious to see how the SS performs first couple nights out. Next up is the setup board for a little tweaking by team mopar, then a new body and paintjob...been surfing the other thread most of the day for ideas...lots of good stuff in there.

96'x40'. I am only looking for a rough starting point, I have no idea where VTA cars are normally geared...? 4.5?

Normal starting point is 4.0. I don't think I've heard of anyone below 3.7. I know a couple of off road guys that are willing to toast a motor to go fast, but that's the beauty of VTA... total top end doesn't seem to matter as much especially on medium size tracks.

I used to run Spec SCB offroad, got to talking with a few people and built a TC4 for VTA. My 1st raced was at Thunder, Darkside, amongst every other VTA racer there that day, helped me out with setup, SXT, pinions, etc, etc, etc. I blistered a fast lap of the day at a 20.1( i run low 13s now), but the atmosphere there at Thunder with all the VTA racers was the best I'd ever experienced. No one said anything negative, only encouraged me to keep it up and thanked me for running with them. I quit offroad that day and haven't put a battery in anything offroad since. If you need anything at all my son and I pit against the wall below the announcer's booth, he runs the blue Sunoco Camaro and I run the white and green Allen Green Camaro. We'll be there sunday and at the ThunderJam also

Run the timing back to 20*, that seems to be the sweet spot for the D3.5s.

I can tell you from my experience it's very difficult to get a track back to USVTA rules after they wander away from the orig. rules. The excuse i like the best is well "to be USVTA LEGAL" i would have to buy all the proper stuff, ( as i'm standing there looking inside a AE 6.1 tekin, phantom 25.5 and 6900mah 100C lipo)and front tires so bald their slicks... HAHA

I have went another route now. My car as always has been USVTA LEGAL, so i put stickers on it and run it. Any of them that beat me...know mine is legal.Funny thing though, 5 more guys have put theirs back to legal(except driver) and have USVTA stickers on theirs too.

On the motor timing i did some testing last night at practice. Our track is small 60x30. I geared the car 3.62 FDR with one small fan. I ran the car with the timing bell at 15 timing (worried about heat) for 8min. 130 deg after done. Then cranked it to 40 timing and ran 8 min. same 130 deg ? checked with 2 temp guns. Now the car ran almost the same lap times but the 40 timing felt like it had more power.
