Racing canceled at my track here in California:

The good - We are getting some very much needed RAIN.

The bad - I'm not getting my much needed laps in.

Too early to consider a move to Florida

Good Luck to all who get to race this weekend - Out.

Who here doesn’t have to add weight to their VTA cars? The minimum weight needs to be lowered, everyone I know is having to add 50-80 grams of weight which is ridiculous.

VTA is one of the larger classes nationwide, there’s always going to be fast guys and slow guys in every class. In most cases the complainers are the slow guys. They complain about tires and other topics of the day, but the reality is until you don’t hit a board you’re not going to be in the top of the class. Quit concentrating on an advantage another driver might have, the biggest advantage in VTA is I didn’t touch a wall therefore I won.

If we lowered the weight, it would drastically alter the way these cars handle. I just finished building up a new VTA and had to add 100g. It was easy. It’s not a big deal. It’s knwof the things that keeps this class separate from the others.

The weight is also high to encourage use of older chassis that are already heavier. (Although that ship sailed a few years ago)

Look at it this way, all that extra weight stuck to the chassis considerably lowers CG and can be put exactly where you want it to get the handling results you want.

I agree with the weight thing, always have, but it is what it is..
As far the rest, remember the early days. We all hit stuff, especially when we're some what new to the hobby. Hell, I still hit stuff, but I'm old...so there is that. LOL

I make weight with my Protoform Mustang on a TC6.2 chassis. Once again the weight requirements as well as all the other requirements for USVTA are just fine.

You can PM me if you'd like to know what I did to make weight.

I have 6 cars set-up for VTA. Only one of those cars requires me to add significant weight to the chassis and four of them need no added weight at all.

Sounds like the rest of your package is pretty heavy too. My TA07 has... uh.. 45g balast to run USGT, much less VTA.

I"m not sure I ever weighed my TC4 in VTA configuration.

On a newer a800 mid motor car combined with the latest and lighter new 25.5 from TSR it's hard to find room for close to 200 grams.

That’s the price you pay for having the newest, most expensive chassis on the market to race the slowest class there is.

Why not go ahead and throw down for the RC market brass weight system, the 7075 weighted chassis, and some Awesomatix screw on weights. Between those, you should be getting close. And maybe throw more than one coat of paint on the body. If you need 200g, every little bit helps.

Im not knocking you too hard for wanting the newest and coolest, I just ponied up for a T4-19 to run VTA. But I knew going into it, that there were going to be challenges to get it to work for the class. But I will not ask the rule makers to change a class so that it’s easier for me. If I was that concerned about the weight, I would run a different class.

Here's a better idea than all this lower the weight nonsense.
RESET THE USVTA WEIGHT TO 1550
scirocco14 and Bri like this.

I run my TC6.2 with two 7gram blocks taped near the bell cranks, a 5000mah GensAce battery, and a full cockpit driver. This puts me a about 10grams over.
When I go thru Tech the battery is in, the body is on, and the body clips are in. No problem.

Re-setting the weight for USVTA at 1550 might be pushing it a bit. Lol. I would be willing to give it a shot just so I could still run this class.

Might go thru tires pretty quick. Haha.

Batteries affect the weight the most, I have packs ranging from 5000 to 6600 depending on how much weight I need to add, generally I add around 40-50g to my 3racing XI Sport kits. Bodies very by weight, mcallister makes the lightest bodies, so with a mcallister body I will run a heavier battery, with HPI or PF bodies I will run a lighter battery.
