Tires ballooning depends on what sauce and how long the sauce is applied for each time you run the car and what you are cleaning the tires with IMHO. I built a VTA car last March, started running it in April couple times a month and put alot laps on my protoform tires, they were pre-mounts, ran the same set from April until November. Clean with lighter fluid, NOT Brake Cleaner ........... apply your tire sauce (I use sxt) less then 5 minutes before you go on track .......... they do take awhile to break in ...... but once they did, mine lasted 8 months before they got to the point the car wanted to traction roll if i pushed it hard ........

The tire discussion is like a broken record, been lurking this thread for awhile now. The trend is to rip on the PF tires in regarding to asphalt racing, carpet racers praise them and the same dance continues with demanding new compounds and how Vta is getting ruined along with which racer has been in it long enough to know what is what.

I'm just here for the comments but...

There is enough knowledge at this point that has been shared around with a bunch of different break in methods and up keep tactics. It sucks they swell up.. it's time for a new set or you suck it up and keep running them it seems. Look at the bright side.. with the slow speed of 25.5's you guys are getting them to work. PF saved VTA and apparently USVTA doesn't want them to make another compound. So I will ask this again as I did a year ago.. if no one makes a new compound what are you guys going to do 🙂? Quit Vta, Quit complaining, or be a hpi hero? Asking for a friend

Or just move to Florida where its your choice to run HPI or PF tires

PF for carpet; HPI for asphalt. Everyone sleeps well.

Not sure where your getting ur info, but not a single racer I talked to at the snowbirds praised the PF tire ... inconsistency and swelling were the number one complaint.

PF tires don't work till they swell up for asphalt racing.

I should say the only people having any positivity is usually the carpet racers. Every time I have drivin a Vta car with fresh pf's or donut pf's on black carpet.. it's dialed. The swelling is the only real gripe. It may Sound wild to have 2 sets or even 3 and rotate between them but it works and not just in vta but Tc classes as well. Sometimes we forgot how much we run our stuff, if you're a week to week racer.

FYI snowbirds is a carpet track ... so yes they were all carpet racers, we had 30 entry's in VTA this year.

There is no need to rotate TC tires, Jacos do not swell up ... they are consistent from the moment you take them out of the bag and stay the same until they are done.

Time to stop beating this dead horse tire issue:

Solutions:
1. Bite the bullet and run what the track requires.
2. Move to Florida where you can run PF or HPI.
3. Get out of the VTA class and maybe run TC or GT

Problem solved.

Apparently I am
A. Ungrateful to the company that saved VTA
B. Too stupid to set up my car
C. A chronic complainer

So I chose to get out of VTA

Doubt that you are any of those you mentioned.

I have total respect for the decision you made to leave VTA.

Hope you're having success at whatever you chose.

Good Luck

4. Protoform fixes the issue.

You don't have to move to FL ... HPI tires are legal at many tracks around the country
