SXT green slime works well for breaking in the tires I hear, I used tire compound to break mine in . I just did reapeated aplications letting each dry before doing it again.
Once the protoform Tires break in they still dont have as much grip as HPI But they last alot longer.
Where I live the outdoor season is almost over . I have used only 2 sets of PF tires outside which I used the whole carpet season before , One set still has enough rubber to use them on the start of the next outdoor season.
So what they lack in starting grip you gain a lot less tire wear.

Quick question,
I raced my VTA car yesterday, -did really well w/ it and got 1st place in all 3 heats.
someone asked if I was adhering to the FDR/Gear Ratio rule, -I had no idea what they were talking about. I told them my car was 100% legit to my knowledge and they were welcome to inspect it. Can someone shed some light on this gear ratio rule? -is this true or some old rule that is no longer used? I've been racing my VTA for a few years at several clubs and have never heard of this rule. But its possible I totally missed it? (for what its worth the club director didn't seem to care about this rule or know about it either).

There's nothing in there about gearing. However, they may be confusing TransAM and Can-Am. Can-Am does have gearing rules, that you need to follow when running a race where their motors are provided. But Can-Am doesn't do VTA motors... IIRC.

For USVTA there is no FDR rule. Only 25.5 blinky roar approved motor and speedo.

thanks, ...yes, I have a ROAR 25.5, speedo in blinky, running the spec Protoform tires, etc etc etc. I've been racing this class for quite some time. Just needed a sanity check there.
Not to mention my FDR is close to everyone else's. Funny, when you win a few races people want to inspect your car, otherwise no one cares. All good. It was a fun day, ...plus I don't think this person meant any harm or was really trying to start anything. (yet still annoying that it was brought up).

But if you are racing by VTA rules, only Protoform tires are allowed. For club racing maybe no one cares. I wonder if the rules will be amended as HPI starts to ramp up their stock again. Starting to see more HPI products in stock. Several HPI VTA bodies in stock on amain.

At one time, I believe that there WAS a specified gear ratio. I believe that it was 4.0.
