Took third today at The Rabbit Road Race. First time running the new Fantom motor. Definitely need to still work the gearing/timing a little, but it ran well. Had anyone else had any experience with the Fantom?

I just won the Scale Nationals with one. Seemed like it liked more timing (~50) and a smaller pinion.

Thanks for the info. I haven't touched the timing, it's at ~46/47 from the factor and I started with 3.62 (53/96) that I had on my Motiv and worked my way down one tooth per run today to end up at 3.92 (49/96) and the motor was still warmer than I like, but getting cooler, and lap times were improving. I couldn't go any lower on the pinion as 49 tooth was the smallest I had on me.

Should've asked. I had smaller pinions. Congrats on the podium.

I have two of them and they are equally good. Best VTA motor I have tried so far. I would agree that it needs more timing and lower gearing than some of the other motors out there. When racing at my local carpet track that is on the smaller side, my FDR is usually around 4.0-4.3.

BTW, I really like that paint job you did on your Mustang. Looks sharp.

Troy set up my v2 Fantom at the Birds, This was on a larger carpet track, think it's at 48 deg, and FDR is around 3.5-3.6 with a 88 spur. although this was on a TC I think it would be applicable to a VTA.

Imo...no. Rob would need to officially answer that. But I've found some of the 1804x to have lower stator IR than what ROAR allows...and with 12.5 rotors. Plus it's given a part number on the ROAR list and 1804x isn't on there...just 1804. Also be aware that Trinity makes about 5 different 25.5 motors. So make sure you check before you buy if you are following usvta rules

That's what I think but my race director says since it says 1804 it's good. I personally run the reedy. Another guy at the track is running it. I would love to hear from robk.
