I've got 2, and they're within 3° of the marks on the can. Resistance is 103-104, so pretty close to the legal limit.

I wanted to give an update, -last week I posted that my car seemed slow and my FDR way off. A lot of you provided a lot of valuable help (thank you).

So last week was my 3rd race day in VTA, although I have good lines and am driving well and my car is dialed in mechanically it just seemed to lack top end speed. I was having trouble getting the gearing correct as I was experiencing cogging when I tried to gear up. I had a 4.0 - 4.1 FDR w/ 45* timing (0-60* is my motor's range). Car was too slow.

Per suggestion I brought my timing back down to about 20* (my timing goes from 0-60*).
Then increased FDR for my first heat to about 3.7. No cogging and car was a bit faster (we had about 10 drivers competing for the A-mains ..running an A and B for the day). My lap times were about 7th out of all 10 drivers however. So better but still not as good as I wanted. For the 2nd heat I geared up to 3.6 FDR, and turned timing to about 23*, car had no cogging and ran even faster lap times getting me to about the 5th spot for qualifying. We had some time prior to the last event and I was able to test another pinion gear adjustment between the last event. I geared this time to 3.45 FDR and adjusted the timing up slightly to 23*, was a tad bit of cogging (meaning it only cogged ever so slightly from complete stop to start only). I backed down to 20* timing and still at 3.45 FDR for the last race, no noticeable cogging at the start of the race. Ran the A-main/last event and placed 4th overall. It was a good day!

thanks for all your help w/ my gearing. You guys helped me quite a bit!
I still have a bit more tweaking to do, but my FDR is really really close to where I want it. (obviously i'll have to tune per track layout).

Your cogging issue may be related to a bad sensor board.

Thanks, ...I suppose its possible, ....is there a way to verify if the sensor board is bad? I have a motor analyzer (can that tell me)?

Sounds like your running a R1 motor ... They seem to have the sensor issues very often with some that adjust timing often .

Fyi if a hamdout /locked timing /locked fdr was in place you would had been on pace from day one and had $40-70 more money in your pocket

Your position is crystal clear but now you're suggesting handout motors are exempt from issues? How about we simply suggest help to the guy, not suggest "what if".....which doesn't help his current issue at all.

I am not sure if the motor analyzer can tell if it is bad. I had two different Fantom motors that would cog at the start and send my ESC into sensorless mode, after a few minutes of running. I swapped the boards with new replacements and that solved the issue. I hope you sort out your problems.

Yes thats correct handout motors will not have these issues . noone will mess with the timing adjustment except the tuner of every motor so accidental over tightening of the sensor screws will not happen and sensor shimming will be the same on all motors .
Yea I know I'm beating a horse just making shameless incerts as possible . lol
Its odd tho I guess cause most of our locals jumped to the R1 back before nationals it seems 80% of them have had sensor issues but they all admitted the changed timing several times trying to milk them for all of it .

Thanks guys,
I have a Tekin Gen3 (25.5) motor in my car, it was brand new when I put it in, has about 4 race days on it thus far.
There is no cogging when the timing is turned down only when I start to turn it up past about 25*.

As for $$ I've been using pinions that I've had in my parts box, that I have acquired over the years. Pinion gears are an investment in RC Racing, ...you really can't race w/o a selection of pinions as you need to gear differently for each track.

In any case, It is possible my sensor board is buggy or bad as suggested, which would suck and meant my current motor was a waste of $$.
The guys at my track are running R1's and Motiv's mostly. I really don't want to purchase a new motor, I am going to continue working w/ the one I got at least for a little while longer.

Before doing anything else, try a different sensor wire. That would be the cheapest and easiest thing to test.
