I took the plunge and ordered a Sakura Zero S. It should be here any day. I also ordered separately some spare parts and all the usual upgrades like the vertical mount, aluminum spur gear adapter and shaft, 19T center pulley, and the replacement belts from RCMart. I had hoped to buy everything from TQ Racing or HKS, but neither had all of the parts in stock. I hope the Christmas season doesn't delay my parts coming from Hong Kong too much. I have a race on 12/31 I want to be ready for. I'll be using this chassis in a 17.5 no timing class. Woohoo!

Download the assembly manual 1st & have a look at that.
Ive taken my new Sak for 1 run so far. I had a big delay as I needed to wait to get some upgrades to make the car better(usuable )
I'd say you want these. If you need the part no's let us know.Im sure someone has that saved on file.
-vertical mountmotor mount (*may not really need it)
-aluminum spur gear/layshaft adapter and shaft(2 separate parts),
-19T center pulley
-replacement belts (better quality)
-replacement turnbuckles, even the 3racing generic ones are better
-metal steering upgrade(bellcrank) & better bearing for the steering bellcrank
-replacement servo saver(not a 3racing one)
-smaller size spur gears, get the 3racing ones , no drilling needed
-metal servo mounts
-parts for shock tower mod: tamiya damper stay(part 84087) & front alloy front bulkhead covers

I also bought some spares, they are really cheap so why not.
steering knuckles & C-hubs, belts, complete gear diff, pinions

The version 2 is SAK-66/V2/PK and is for the Sakura Zero (not the S). The one you actually want is SAK-S17/PK. The difference is the one for the S, includes the aluminum layshaft/spur gear mount for the opposite side. That piece is already aluminum on the Zero, and thus is not needed.
Dumb question but will the SAK-66 work on the S model?
Looking at TQ RC site they don't have the SAK-S17 listed but they do have the SAK-66 and the SAK-30 which includes the layshaft mount if I'm looking at it right, but it is an extra $10 over the SAK-17 kit to get both pieces.
Thanks.

Flip the front and rear diffs and grind the upper deck a little bit.
Thanks.

The 17 has both bulkheads for the motor side and the other side.
If you put the 66 on a Zero S the layshaft bulkhead on the side away from the motor will still be plastic. It'll work, just won't be as shiny
You don't want the 30 at all, it's a horizontal motor mount in aluminum.

The 66 only has the bulkhead for the motor side, since the Zero (not the Zero S) has full aluminum bulkheads already -- it just swaps the motor side horizontal to vertial mounting.
The 17 has both bulkheads for the motor side and the other side.

Another dumb question that I have been digging through this thread trying to find the answer.
Is the SAK-06 shaft needed to run the SAK-U05 Alum spur mount?
Thanks again.

19turn pully parts
Hi
I have an Zero S on order ( should have it any day now ).
I have a question, I have ordered a 19t pully but can't get hold of Spur Gear Shaft Set For 3racing Sakura Zero - 3Racing SAK-06.
Can I use the factory shaft ? If so what size washers are they being used ?.
Great thread by the way.

That's cool but what about the 2 washers, what size are those and can you buy them in packs ????
I was planing on using the alloy gear holder and 19T pulley.

Easy mod.
Get the alloy front bulkhead covers and a Tamiya TRF416X rear damper stay.
Open the holes on the damperstay a little bit and mount the whole thing at the back.
I used it with the Sakura X1 rear lower arms and got a ton of grip back for it.
It let's me drive the car like the TRF416X i have.
Same setup now
Another thing you get with this mod is that you don't need shorter springs.
You can use Tamiya,HPI and similar springs without any problems.

Just realized I have the PDFs of the manuals on the computer. You are correct, there were additional washers with one of the upgrades.
The layshaft ends up like:
spacer, washer, pulley, bearing, gear holder, gear, gear holder, bearing, pulley, washer, spacer
From the Zero manual:
spacer: m5 x 0.2mm
washer: m12 x 0.85mm
Scrolling through and looking at the pics of the upgrade parts it looks like the washers come with the lay shaft (SAK-06) so I guess I was wrong before and at least ordered that since I know I've got those pink washers in there. (Because everyone knows, pink anodizing, like stickers, is worth at least .1s a lap)
Other than the washer, the manuals show the rest of the parts on the lay shaft are the same between the Zero and the Zero S. Next time I'm in the parts box I'll have to see if I have a second lay shaft and compare them. According to the manuals they have the same dimensions.
