i likely wont have those springs to start with, but i've got pretty much the full line of tamiya springs (currently running white/blue i'm pretty sure)

For carpet racing would i be better buying a smokem 417mx chassis, smokem 417fx chassis or a tamiya v5 chassis? Car is a 417x

Since we're talking about aspahlt setup, whats a good setup for a 417x on a large asphalt track that will be sprayed with pop? Will be running 17.5 blinky. Im pretty sure there will be 2 sweepers and 2 180 turns.
Heres a picture of last years track, the layout should be similar to last years

Think how a pole vault works. It lifts the person into the air. Same with front suspension arms angled downward; when brakes applied it lifts the car up. It is not a panacea, though, because in the severe case where the car actually would lift up, the springs are not the thing holding the car up any more; it is locked up and way too stiff over any bumps encountered under heavy braking. So use it [anti-dive] in small amounts. For example to counteract SOME of the front dive you would get, but not so much as to actually lift the car up in front.

so .5mm spacer on the front suspension mount and 1mm on the rear suspension mount is anti dive?

You achieve anti dive by running no spacer underneath the ff block and 0.5mm underneath the fr split blocks, so the arms angle down towards the front slightly. As the name suggests, it stops the car from diving too much by taking up some of the weight transfer with the arm. It also reduces castor.
On the track it improves initial and high speed steering, and also improves braking at the expense of steering coming out of the corner - I normally find this makes the car more stable on corner exit so I run antidive basically all the time.

i always run a bit, but i never knew what it was called. in the rear i just run .5 front/rear, is there a term for similar anti-dive in the rear, anti-squat?
#5203
so im in the market for a 1/10 touring car... looking at the trf417 and trf417v5
any drawbacks on the V5?
is it worth the money to buy the V5?
Thank you

anti-squat would result in more rear traction on-power corner exit would it not?

No offense, but I can see why you are struggling. Basically all of the changes you have made will make for an pushy/edgy car in low-med traction. Arm sweep is a classic one, it makes the car push on the way in and snap on the way out if you don't have enough grip. Same thing with the shock angles, the front laid down will push all the way till the apex and the rear laid down will make the car rotate hard and have no forward traction.
What to do:
C/c/xa/e blocks
Shocks 5/5 on towers
2k diff
2mm Ackerman
5/5.5mm ride height (or 0.5mm higher depending on how bumpy)
5.5/4.5mm droop
1.5/2 deg camber
Kit everything else (camber links, bump steer, etc)
Try that and report back
