How much weight are you guys needing to balance out the car?

Im running a Futaba R603FS rx, S9452, Viper VTX10, and Fantom 6000mah/60C battery... With the transponder mounted on top of the servo, I am needing .75oz on the electronics side(.25 in front of servo, .5 behind the motor).

I don't have an accurate scale/triple-beam, so Im not sure how much the car weighs overall.

Does this seem normal?

Hi folks. I just recently built my tc6 and have the novak havoc 17.5 set up with a savox 1258TG and was wondering if anyone can give me any advice what pinion/spur gear combo works best. I intend to race on the 17.5 no boost category. Also if you can advice what i can do to also increase the chances of making this car a little bit faster without changing the esc/motor combo. Thanks :)

Pinion/Spur combo

1. Decide if you want to run 48 pitch or 64 pitch. 48 pitch is more durable and easier to set gear mesh with. 64 pitch allows for finer gear ratio adjustments. Both are equally fast.

2. Go to gearchart.com or some other gear chart creating program and print yourself off a gear ratio chart. For Gearchart.com you will have to select TC5 which has the same internal ratio as a TC6.

3. The gear ratios I have seen work vary from 3.5 to 3.9. I'd say to be safe start with around a 3.8 and a good combo for that would be 72/38 in 48 pitch. In 64 pitch, you could start with 96/50 or 51.

Speed:

Your Havok system should be plenty fast, and to have good speed a clean and free drive-train and a decent battery should be all you need. You can also play around with adjusting motor timing (although a little difficult with a Novak SS motor but can be done). The most important thing for a fast car is good driving so that you maintain corner speed which will translate into going faster down the straight. Hope this helps.

bshookup, thanks for the direction and advice.

I have a TC5 and i really want to get this car, especially with the Reflex Racing upgrades. I have been looking online and noticed the price has dropped recently. I went to my lhs and asked them how fast i could get one and the guy told me to wait a little bit as a new edition is coming out soon. I havent been able to really find anything on that ......he said the new edition was comin with the gear diffs and that if i want the gear diffs (which i do) i should just wait. Anyone heard this as well ?

Does anyone know (team drivers specifically) how many grams are shaved off switching from the steel screws to the new FT aluminum screws? I need to slim my car down just a bit. Looks like the screw kit is $40-$50 depending on place, and just wanted some numbers before I dropped the money on it.

Also, does anyone know if the upcoming gear diffs can handle mod motors?

Found somewhere that says the screw kit shaves almost 30 grams off the car over the steel ones..... :sneaky:

Hey guys, just a couple quick gearing questions. I mostly drive on a medium size trackband looking for pinion and spur recommendations. I don't under stand the FDR so just give me sizes. Lol. It will be for a 13.5 with some timing and gearing for a mod 5.5 motor. Thanks guys!

Just curious, since that appears to be a VTA car in your av...

Why would you need (or want) the car lighter?

I've always ended up adding weight to our VTA rides, not trying to shave it off. Some tracks tried the 'adding weight as a penalty' concept in the early days of VTA, usually the heavier the cars got the faster they went.

cwoods34 09-11-2011 06:57 PM

I don't race VTA any more. It was just a neat picture I found on my computer (it is my old TC4, though). I run my TC6 in mod when I can, or 17.5 if needed.

There, updated it :D
