I am heading out tomorrow for a big race, but there seems to be some issue regarding my new Hobbywing motor and whether it is legal to run. I bought a Hobbywing XeRun 21.5T V10-G2 Black with SKU of 30101109.

When I check the ROAR approved motor list, I don't see it anywhere. I've emailed ROAR, but no reply just yet. Anyone know if I am SOL?

I don't think you will have any issues using that motor. I'm going to guess that a Team Scream motor will be at the top of the podium.

No doubt, and I will have to see what the tech guys say when I get there.

Did you have to do any mods to get it to fit? It looks good.

Just had to put a piece of flat fiberglass between the rear stock body posts position, cut those down, then mounted new one's more inboard. Fronts are no issue. Had to do something like that when I used to run VTA and a HPI Vette body.

Question on front end spool. Should it be locked or work like a diff? I recently received a TC6.1 set up for USGT. It came with the front spool completely locked. I have reviewed several setup sheets AE's site and PetitRC and all have said front spool but some say tight or locked.

With the car I also received another locked spool, a spool that works like a differential (tires spin opposite) and a one way spool (free wheels forward, both sides lock under power). I am curious when to use which front.

I am not new to racing (offroad 2wd), but am new to touring cars. Any help will be appreciated.

When they say tight its for the TC6 slipper spool that can be adjusted but has pressure plates so it can slip if it takes a hit. It doesnt work as a diff. and should be set tight. Locked is just a solid spool and will usually use the plastic drive cup things for the CVD's. There is also a gear diff that can be filled with diff oil or putty. Thats what I use on carpet and I have 1 million weight silicone diff oil in it. Its not locked but will rotate if needed. I've owned but never tried the one way. I used to use it on asphalt with 1/2 million weight.

Traction Compound for USGT

Wondering what you guys prefer for traction compound on asphalt?

Tried Paragon Black - works good, but the smell lasts for days and makes my eyes water. Tires were still sticky after they came off the track. Worked well with both VHT and un-prepped track.

STX 2.0 - followed instructions and wiped 5-10 minutes before my heat. 1st 2 - 3 laps are like driving on ice, then it starts to come in a bit. After the race, tires are not sticky at all. This was 2 weeks ago on a chilly VHT prepped track.
Ended up,some of the fast guys were not using traction compound at all.

I'm using Liquid Wrench on the off road tires ( clay compounds ) - I'm tempted to try it in USGT.
