Default 25.5

I was checking the lap times between the USGT and 25.5TC track record at the recent ROAR regionals and with the exception of one USGT driver (he had my motor), the bulk of USGT cars are running right at the 25.5 track record lap time. I'm not sure how much putting USGT tires on Joe Maxey's car would slow him down, but the 25.5 motor might be an option for USGT if the 21.5 motor situation gets out of control!

Just a thought

Ill try this again...to late to spec a motor, whether cost or whatever....cause your $175 motor will still cost you $175 with the 7 motors you buy at $25 each to get a good one.

Then if you do get a spec motor...then lipos will come into play, then ESC, then chassis, then servo...ect...THIS IS A RACING CLASS FOR RACERS....we run a spec tire/insert and bodies....that's it....if the class is to much for you, the USVTA offers VTA and F1 that are very much lovable as well.

if...IF ROAR changes the rules to fit the current crop of motors like they did with VTA, then great...Im all for it. But like stated earlier the USVTA set this class up to give a little more options to the racers that VTA didn't have. People wanted blinky and ROAR 21.5's...well here it is...don't complain now, cause this isn't suitable anymore....

when ROAR looks at the motors and says..."hey company X, don't make that motor below 27" and they comply, then we got something...but until then drive clean lines and have some fun getting beat by the average Joe that bought a "W".....

funny thing is...if you are one of the racers complaining about the TSR or Trinity motors getting some of your glory...imagine if you tighten up your driving and setup and beat them with you regular 21.5....then you get to sit there and giggle like a little school girl at their $175 paper weight....any of you remember the Black Diamond ESC...lol

okay bad day at work...but seriously, I feel it will change but not until the heavy hitters get a new motor out that can be below that 30....then we will see a stop by ROAR, and Im sure the USVTA will follow....

Patients is the key...yep patients...more you have the better you feel about not being sick

Myron thanks for the reality inject on this topic. Lots of emo types crying about a dying sport. It's not dying and we don't offer safe rooms to harbor your sad selves.

It's racing. Not everyone gets a trophy. I go out and get my butt kicked every weekend
but I enjoy the competition. Put the self pity and pride away and go get your butt kicked and learn something in the process.

You're never going to stop some guys dropping that much money on their gear. What spec motors aim to do is help the guys that are only willing to buy a single cheaper motor once and not feel left behind. The performance difference between an average and good motor from the same batch is less than the performance difference between last years and this years motor of the month. But it's also about perception. Even if there is a slight performance variation, if the motors look the same the whiners are going to have some doubt about why they lost, rather than knee-jerk blaming the motor. And if they use a motor claim rule, they'll look pretty silly when they claim the motor and still lose.

As you say though, they'll probably just move on to blaming their batteries etc.

The best solution for local/club racing if you are worried about motor advantages in any class is to create a layout the minimizes the differences between motors.

I race on a relatively small track that at times has technical/tight layouts. On the more technical layouts during weekly club racing, the best VTA cars would finish pretty well in the USGT mains. Out layouts don't always have a long straight and many times have a lot of slow 180 degree turns.

The other benefit of changing up the layout or making a more technical track is it helps your local crowd become better racers. A tight layout can give you practice on late braking passes or learning to be patient to setup a pass.

Gorgeous, realistic cars running nose-to-tail at reasonable speeds-- what's not to like? Next year it will be the largest class!

Yup. Seems like the perfect time for the "Squeaky Wheel" to ruin the fun with unnecessary rule changes. Right?

Rob has already given us two major changes in the rules this year: substantially reduced minimum weight, and a body list. I don't know if either change was due to "squeaky wheels", but neither one seems to have cost us any participants, so I think our fun is still pretty safe.
