Spec motor racing sucks, always has and always will.

But on thing Myron forgot In 25.5 roar has locked in the minimum resistance of the stator ... The other spec winds haven't done that . Resistances in 17.5 are just about down to what 13.5 was 2yrs ago cause there is no minimum . So by today's current rule spec I could make a motor with a 10.5 resistance but be 100% 17.5 legal but might not last but one race, not by shorting out either ... |

Yea just a little ...

Maybe it's time for USGT to lead the way, and specify a minimum resistance for the 21.5. That's actually better than changing to a one make/model of motor, because most of us already own a perfectly acceptable motor. The only guys that would be out any money would be those that are plunking down the bucks for the latest generation motor-- and I'm one of those guys. But I don't mind writing off the purchase if it means ten other guys won't need to spend any more money. I suggest we use a 65 milliohm at 25C minimum resistance between any two stator terminals. |
+1 on Howard's idea.

Will there ever be a time where people stop complaining about spec classes and just drive. If you don't like buying the newest innovative product or going for the fastest equipment then run mod. If you want to win you need to play the game.

I don't know this will work or not, but we have deal with a lot of STOCK racing over ASIA and they have the "KV" value rule (mainly used over TITC @ Thailand for like 5-6 years now and classes like Street GT - same as our USGT here are definitely under that rule for many years). Set the motor (timing) and have it on the motor checker and make sure your motor is under the KV value less then...for example, 3200kv.....thats it.
It doesn't matter how good of your motor is....as long as your motor is set under that limit on the motor checker................. Every time when I talk to them they are very surprised to see us using 45+ timing on the motor as they have never go beyond 30* |

Would be nice or at least interesting to see this. Because you don't even need to take apart the motor at a tech station to measure KV :)

Its interesting to see how people now want motors restricted. We had motors restricted in VTA and people complained and then we opened them up because thats what people wanted along with ROAR's new rules and the loss of Novak....and people still complained. There is no way to please everyone this is a big problem. Ideally I would like to see ROAR come out with rules like 25.5 for all "spec" motors but sadly this if it were to happen would have to take some time to roll out I dont even know if it could happen in a year it would need to be more like 2 years just to make it easier on manufactures. Until then we are in a place where its not easy to make an adjustment to please everyone.
I like the KV rating that Howard Lo brought up but Im not sure how feasible this will be for weekly racing. |

Howard...do all currently approved motors meet this?
Even at 65 milliohms, production tolerances would always mean a few of the "short stack" would not make the cut, but that would likely be due to wire that is over the maximum diameter given in the ROAR rules. The new "skinny stack" motors are well below 60 milliohms, which means a probable increase of at least 10% in power. There aren't any older motors that will keep up with that. |

Any limit on RPM or Kv rating will NOT be effective, because these are not indications of power output. Neither indicates the torque of the motor.
