They don't have a true USGT class so I don't have a choice but I figured the 17.5 action would make me a better driver. I can keep up with some of the 17.5 guys with my VTA car so I'm hoping the 21.5 would be awesome to run against them. Thanks for the FDR advice. I'm gonna shoot for 3.1 to start.

If your a good Clean driver you could probably do decent and run ahead of the "slow guys" but you probably arent going to beat say top 3 -4 drivers

The USGT rules allowing for an almost 14% weight reduction for FWD cars (1250 from 1450) Does/has anyone run one? All I can find so far is a Tamiya TT03 for a FWD car. Just curious.

There are a few people Who converted the Sakura d3 drift car to fwd. I don't know how they've done but if you look in their thread theres some info on it

NutDriver 08-09-2014 09:01 PM

Do they work?

tamiya, serpent, 3 racing, vbc all have fwd touring cars.

Well, the little extra 'tick' gave me all the speed I was sorely lacking but now my motor temp was at 185 F when I checked it about 20-30 seconds after the end of the heat race.

Track temps were around 110-120f, air temps were about 105f, so the motors were starting out already warm. I do run a fan on the motor as well

1: What temp would be considered too hot?

2. Running a 5.5 fdr for our class, and I'm running a 113t spur and a 40t pinion (5.65 fdr). Would dropping down a tooth on the pinion be advised to reduce the temps, or are the 185 degree temps within a safe parameter?

Thanks in advance for your input. :tire:

Did anyone help you? That would be on the high side of what I would let my motors go (with a fan). Experts don't agree on the max temp for motors. Some say in the 160 -170 range others in the 170 to 180 range. but probably all would agree that 185 is pushing it. Motor timing gives you more RPM & AMP Draw and more AMP draw gives you heat. Is there any way to check the amp draw at the timing you have set in the motor (or just check the ESC temp and or check to see how much battery you consume during and calculate the amp draw)? If ESC wasn't hot too, do you have to run that FDR for your class? These brushless motors don't like to over rev, so if the ESC wasn't hot, I'd add gear and check the temps FREQUENTLY. If the motor temps don't drop, take the motor apart and see if there is anything inside that is binding (grit, bad bearing, etc.). Lowest FDR I've heard of in USGT is 4.25 with the high revving R1 motor on a small track, everything else seems to be in the 3.0 to 4.0 range. 5.5 FDR is really low. At least that's my experience. Hope that helps

Out of curiosity, why were truck bodies not allowed? Not trying to stir the pot, i'm just wondering why, since they would hold no advantage over any other body.(that could see anyway)

billdelong 08-11-2014 07:30 AM

nobody at my local club had any problems when I raced this body a while back:

Don't go there... because the the only possible answer pertains to appearances and if appearances matter, then why allow racing prototypes...?

We run a local Nastruck class using bodies like these, and it's both fun and popular. The rules are the same as for USGT except for the bodies and tires. We use HPI Vintage Slicks with Vintage stock car wheels. The tires have very little traction, but last the whole season.

I like the truck bodies too. I'm fine that they aren't legal for USGT, but I wish there was an on-road class where we could use them. Maybe an open sportsman class like they used to run in Indianapolis during the RCAR days.

I bet if you were to dominate week after week, you'd hear it! Lol
Ps. Nice body!

No matter what type of racing it is, people try to run trucks. This drives me insane, since there are no trucks raced in any gt or prototype road racing events (nascar notwithstanding). Trucks at Lemans...?

((counting down the seconds until someone produces pictures of trucks at some full size event)(I will not be swayed!!!!!)):D
