What's special with the rear axle being able to get power down?

I suspect it has something to do with the driver, more so than the sum of the parts.

The driver obviously has talent......but look at the axle on his car though, it is much wider in the rear and uses wheels that are offset much less than usual 12th scale wheels which to me would seem to put the weight of the car in the center of the tire rather than primarily on the inside.

he was third at TITC 2010, so I think let's not discount him yet

I don't see how can that make a difference on a SOLID axle ?

The rim flex may be different somehow.

I don't know. But I don't think they did it just for the looks.

You might be on to something there. Maybe the offset wheel flexs to keep contact thru turns. The axle is longer because of the offset wheels.

I have no doubt that the Yok wheel design is different, so were the Corally wheels back in the day.

What I meant by the driver being the difference, is that it is clear from watching the race, that Naoto can run a loose car, and hang onto it, while turning ridiculously fast laps.

That is the sign of a great driver, imho

He can't be Masami Jnr until he can drive with his feet like Masami. This would be somewhat harder with a wheel radio...

He did make a bunch of sick passes with the rear end swinging around, though his car still looked more hooked up than the guys at the back. If you watch, he almost got passed back by Reinhard when he first got by, but then it seemed like the car came back in for him and he pulled away. He's obviously a great driver, but his car was very good as well.
