Metal Diff halves.
Hiya folks,
I made a purchase off ebay (tamiya's aluminium diff halves) and was recently delivered.
So i stripped down my car to install and I found that the original plastic diff halves have melted around the rings! yikes! no wonder the diff was slipping under hard acceleration. I only have a lrp 13.5 and team wave rbs setup on it... but it was slipping even with a sport tune motor.
anyways, I had it built up and the same thing applies on the alu diff halves as it did on the plastic ones... "TURN THE DIFF AROUND" otherwise your diff is gonna look funny and axles won't fit. but the instructions do not reflect this so use uncommon sense.
The diff is tighter and a lot smoother now.
I consider the alu diff halves or the TRF 201x steel diff halves to be an absolute MUST HAVE!
If not, you're looking at a potential diff meltdown that will cost you even more (gearbox, diff gear and God knows what else could melt in there...)
I love this car! haven't had so much fun for quite a long while. It's becoming quite pricey with the mods i've been buying:
-alu screws
-alu rockers
-alu suspension bridges
-hard arms
-home made sway bar set (using evo5 bars and alu turnbuckles)
-alu drive hexes
-415 front and rear uprights (using 950 bearings)
-415 style alu front stub axle (couldn't resist it)
-46mm alu axles
-xenon spurs (48dp)
i'm still looking for a alu spur gear holder and the alu steering set to complete the pic... yikes!
what an incredible build and so much fun to drive... minimal settings required!

Btw, anyone try different settings on this car yet? Seems everyone in Japan is keeping their setups a secret until the first TGP race with it.

I've ordered a PRO version with a volvo 850 body parts set and also:
FF03 Alu diff
FF03 Stabilizer set
FF03 Titanium screw set
TA05 short reversible suspension set (to have the harder type)
46mm swing shaft
TA05 carbon battery plate set
TA05 Alu rocker arms
DF03 heat sink bars
FF03 102T spur gear
M05 reinforced rear wheel axle
Ride rims (16 spoke)& A-type tires from tamiya
Still to buy:
FF03 alu spur holder
FF03 alu steering set
Alu suspension mounts
46mm titanium coated suspension shafts
Suspension balls
Hope that tamiya will be releasing those plastic parts in a carbon reinforced version, to give more strenght and less weight and a rear carbon damper stay
Will be racing the car with a tamiya (brushed) GT Tuned motor

Motor cooling....
Hiya folks,
Had fun runs but have found one HUGE problem!
Motor cooling is a problem.
Reason:
The bumper seals against most bodyshells quite well and prevents air from flowing over those lurvely blue df03 heatsinks... (or whatever other type you use).
I've sliced away the centre portion of the foam bumper and mounted a fan(I double sided tape but shoo-goo will be more secure) in it's place. Will follow up with a pic soon. Just imagine a serpent style bumper.. With a fan in place of the ramp.
Otherwise, your motors are gonna be running super hot! Also, ditch the spur gear cover... Cheaper to buy spurs then new motors...

r u guys getting a lot of play on the spur gear holder and a bit on the shaft itself? I'm pretty sure I put mine together as per the instructions. It just feels it has too much play. I understand its a plastic spur gear holder but still seem like too much play for me. The stock gearing, is that meant for Stock (27turn or 17.5)?

Yeah it feels a little sloppy. hopefully the aluminum spur gear holder will remove some of it.
