battery holder
wanna ask a question about the battery holder on evo ms, if using isolated battery rather than stick pack, besides glass tape, what else can be use to hold the battery? cos if i am using the plastic holder come with the car, the battery might be able to move and hit the shaft in the middle or might be able to drop out of the car. thx

A friend of mine recently had this problem, grab 3 ball cups snip off the ball section, and use them as plastic posts screwed to the chassis, 2 on the outside of the battery, and one on the inside rear to keep the last cell away from the shaft drive cup.

When I had my Evo4 ages ago, I used a Yokomo MR4-TC Graphite Battery bar as this uses the same dimensions as the Tamiya one but is extremely rigid and not flexible like the Tamiya one. You could tie a knot with the Tamiya one it was so flexible.
The Yoke bar fits on the existing Battery posts fine and works great. Never had a battery come out EVER. |
Will the battery slots on the MS fit 3700 or 3800's or will have Have to mod it?

Mine (eXpress 3800's) seem to fit on the regular EvoIV which is the same chassis as the MS. One thing to note on my 3800's... I did not heat shrink them which would make them slightly even larger.

Did you guys put ca glue on the chassis like the book says?

I sanded and smoothed my chassis and top deck and sealed it, remember if your using tape to really round off the slots where the tape passes through the chassis otherwise it can cut through the tape.

Do I need to seal it or can I just leave it as is? I have never done anything like that and I don't want to mess up the look of my car...

Just got my clear blue gear covers!!! As to sealing the chassis, again I think it's important. You are running a electric car and the carbon fiber chassis conducts electricity. It's just a good idea to seal it. Plus I think a sealed chassis prevents a lot of glitching problems and protect the chassis from splintering during crashes. |
Very good points...So do I do all of this filing and then just run CA glue along the chassis and barrery slots? How do I seal is and what should I use...This is not my TB02...I really don't want to mess this car up :tire:

Just file the edges of the chassis & top plate to get the sharp edges off. On the battery slots you will want to take your time and test fit a pack quite often to make sure you get the batteries to sit flush with the bottom of the chassis, but not sticking through. Once you get all that done, then use a Q-tip and apply thin CA to all of the areas you just filed. Take you time and it will come out good. I think Calandra has a how to article on their site about chassis prep, but I can't get their site to load right now. Good luck and remember to TAKE YOUR TIME.
