Exactly... I didn't say backing plate.. I did not know what to call it so I said "backer". Maybe I should have said gear mount. :D Anyways, it seems that shaft cars designed with the "gear mount" infront of the gear instead of behind it tend to have problems. Then they try to correct this by offering a "backing plate" to offer some support to the diff gear. Which sometimes helps. But it's just not the same. blah blah blah. That's one reason why I usually ran a diff up front on the Evo3. With a diff up front, the diff gear is support on both sides. So you don't have to worry about the gear warping. Thus you don't have a problem stripping out gears.

Anyways, if I do get an Evo4... I'll wait for SpeedtechRC to get them in. I think I'm done trying to be the "first" to get the car in the states. You'll save hundreds just switching over! (geico hehe).

yeah.... but consider... stiffen the spur gear and imho you'll end up
damaging the bevel pinion instead. And those things are even
more expensive to replace than the bevel spur.

Plus not to mention you'll accumulate a pile of balldiff spurs. :lol:

nah, the backing plate option was brought out only becoz some
gorilla owners were cranking down those little 2mm screws waay
too tight and squishing the plastic. We caught that early on and
only put the screws on loosely + loctite.

Besides, Square brought out the 1st backing ring.

No the balldiff don't support the gear anymore than the oneway.

The outdrives+diffring don't reach to where the gearteeth are.



Got a twindiff car that was mustered into newbie duty (ie passed
around to trainee steerers like a 2c ho). Was rolling it around last
night and its got a funny notchyness in the drivetrain somewhere... uhoh. :(

True about the ball diff up front. Didn't think about that. But the oneway can tweak or warp where it's not supported by the screws. With a ball diff... the whole gear will move. So it won't warp. I noticed this when I stripped a couple oneway gears when I first got the Evo3 last year. The stripped part was always on the part of the gear not supported by a screw. Once I went to a diff.. all problems went away.

Anyways, I don't have the car anymore. But I'd still like to see Evo4 with the gear mount to the back of the gear and not the front. It would help me sleep at night... lol.. :D

Aluminum bulkheads, very nice.

it looks like a cross between an evo3 and a barracuda.

I hope that there is still a way to service the one way and the diff easily without having to take the entire bulkhead apart. That is my only complain about the 415.

The website also show the chassis to be only 2.5mm thick compare to 3mm for both the EVO3SL and 415. bummer.

I guess Tamiya is saving that for the Surikarn edition in time for Xmas.:D :D
