Hi Guys, Iam going to be installing lowered pods on my L4 as soon as I get them. I have been truing my tires down to 45mm with good results, but when I did I had the #4 adjusters in the stock pods and the ride height was good at about 3mm.
but I dont have any adjustment left as the tires wear. With the lowered pods running my tires at 45mm what # adjuster should I start with so I could get a little more wear out of the tires? Thanx Bill

It depends on which pod plates you are getting. They are not all lowered the same amount. IRS, Niftech (the best), and CRC are all the same.

I'm not sure without trying it on one of my cars but I think an AE #2 down will get you about the right ride height at 45mm. When you get your new pod plates try it yourself.

I'd like to suggest that you get a set of the new IRS ride height adjusters. They come in '0' (middle, same as a three, or ...) through '3.5', in .5 mm increments. These will make getting just the right ride height easy. I've just started using them and they are the best thing since sliced bread!

Big Bill,

It was equivalent to drift car racing on that wood gym floor surface. You needed a steady finger on the trigger. Fun for all!

I may come to Gilroy on Saturday.

I had just bought the lunsford titanium front axels for my l3 and when I triend to install them, i noticed that the threads were too large for the steering knuckles. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? And if so, which size of a bit to use to enlargen the holes.

What do you mean by "too large?" Length or width? Hahahahaha..... We all wish we had this problem, I do... Anyway.... They completely pass through and you put a nut on the backside....

Switch Blade - Just line it up, screw it in and then install the locknut on the back. You'll also need to file a little off the arms so there is no binding.

Put the holder on the kingpin before you put the Lunsford axles in - the axles do deform the hole that the kingpin goes into so you'll either have to shave the kingpin hole (pain and not so precise) or put the axle in after the kingpin - better and since the holder doesn't slide on the kingpin, it doesn't make any difference.

Further truing adventures

Okay - I was able to get my fronts on my truer but not the rears - do I NEED to cut down my rear tires?

I'm running grey/green/pinks on the rears and purple fronts (I'm going to try magentas as well. . .)

vtl1180ny 02-18-2005 08:14 AM

You don't HAVE to do anything... Everyone has their own starting point.... I seem to get a lot of rear tire wear with grey's so I start the tires at 50mm....
