On the strakka body, how far up from the line should I cut it?

Antimullet 01-09-2018 02:35 PM

I cut mine right on the line.

Same here.

I’m looking for a good camber gauge with sharp edges ( no round edge kind) for when tires get almost to the rim. Also with no cutout in the middle of the angle. Carbon fiber preferably. ???

This is how I cut every body. Install the smallest size tire you plan to run on the car(make sure the car is at race ready ride height). Trim the body so that it is just off the surface when mounted on the car(I use a glass table for the next step). Lay a Sharpe on the glass then run it around the body, final trim to that mark and you are golden. I also put a 1mm shim under the body posts, those can be removed when you install start of race tires so that the body will still be as low as possible.

1/12th Body Weight

Ever wondered what the weight difference is between bodies. Prolite 31g. Lightweight. 41g. Regular weight 73g. These weights are real world and will vary depending on paint scheme and stickers.

I have run the Regular Weight PROTOform AMR-12 for some time but just couldn't match lap times with the fastest on the track. I went to the Pro-Light and gained close to half a sec per lap on the track. The body to me is too flexible for club racing where you have lesser drivers around you and ended up causing me problems in 2 qualifiers after getting hit. So last week I went with the standard Lightweight body and my times were still faster by about 3 tenths per lap over the regular weight body. I think i'll stick with the regular lightweight body for now.
So which one will you choose.

This is what's available for a carbon camber gauge.

If you want a custom set look at McFactory (RacerMac), but be prepared to wait for a while to get the set. I took 4 months to receive my 1:12 set and he still has not made my Pro 10 camber gauges and it's been about 7 months now.

Genesis RC has some very nice camber gauges in acrylic.

I have the CRC carbon fiber camber gauges, and the Hudy 1/12-1/10 pan car setup system. Both work well.

This. They are the best and most accurate for quick checks!

I'm mounting a Strakka right now. I set the posts as low as possible without the body interfering with wires or pod movement.

It's mounted 5mm forward (using front wheel lines as a baseline).

I cut the bottom to be 7mm high. I'm probably 5mm above the cut line all the way around.

This is with 39.8mm tires, and 3.3mm ride height. The car is exactly as it finished the a main. At race start, it will be slightly higher.

You know, I used to be a non believer in the Hudy 1/12 setup system but I've grown to appreciate it now days. If you don't mind packing it around, it's an awesome tool for toe, camber and steering travel. I find it helpful when I'm running on fumes at a big race, lack of sleep and barely hanging on for a little peace of mind.

Otherwise I use the small camber gauges like CRC or Genesis, a pair of calipers for toe, and caster gauges from Slapmaster tools :)
