Is 16 going to fail in Mod, or just not be quite as efficient as it could be?

Honestly I don't know as I don't run Mod...but people I've talked to who do run mod say not to use 16awg so I take them at their word on that. I only run 13.5 blinky and 16awg works just fine for that.

I'm certainly no pro, but I've been running my HW 1s with a 4.0 in blinky on a 40x95 indoor carpet track with zero issues with TQ 16g. Motor stays under 110 and esc gets to about 140. I've even added mild boost and turbo without any problem. Temps indoors here are 70-80 F. A loss of efficiency etc might make 13/14g a better option, but it was easier not having to rewire my esc when I wanted to run mod.

Anyone have problems running 16g in mod?

16G for 1/12 MOD works fine. I think Donny Lia uses 16g and he is fast. I have talked to TQ and they have a few drivers running 16G in mod without any problems.

I run 1 3.5 for 1/12 MOD and will be trying 16G the next time out, I think it will be ok. My reson for running it is to help reduce pod tweek.

I would like to have a feedback on this too.

Coming from 1/10 and 1/8 scale I find cables you use in 1/12 very big for their application. I use 13AWG in 1/8 brushless.

Donny, Dumas, and Peter Robinson were all using 16g on their Mod cars in Vegas IIRC...

Thanks for that. Just started using 16 awg recently for 10.5 blinky. Now I'm not worried about having to rewire my ESC for a Mod race in 2 weeks time. Though if the forecast temperatures are still above 40* C (104* F) then, I might have to take that into account.

Keep us posted once you run. It will be interesting to see if the ambient causes any problems.

I'll try and take regular temp measurements for you.

Come to think about it I ran 16awg with a 10.5 and 4 cell NiMh at Snowbirds several years back...didn't have any issues with it. If it was slowing the car down I couldn't tell. It was scary fast!

Aside from birds, IIC, Nats etc, are there any programs in the US lucky enough to race mod at a club level on a regular basis?

We have run it on and off at 5280 here in CO. People get into it and then back out when they break stuff or start going through tires. We are back into it right now though, due to snowbirds prep, nats, and general desire for awesome.

It's also funny...people talk about tire wear with mod quite a bit, but my mod tires (mag/pinks right now) get much better wear than the black/yellows or oranges I use for 17.5 and 13.5. Seems to me that there is a bit more maintenance associated with mod since parts wear out a bit faster, but the biggest thing is that you have to rebuild your diff every 2 runs or so. I am hoping we start to run it more regularly out here, or maybe even start running a 10.5 class more regularly to keep things interesting.
