Nylon Locknut replacement?

Hi,
as total newbie to 1:12 , please would you give me some advice:
I have here an ASSOCIATED RC12L4. just finished and have rebuild the diff, as I thought it was not smoothenough.
tried to lock it up with the standard nylon lochnut ( part nr 4185) and this nut went nuts... I cannot put tension on it, it slips over...
Sure there must be an alternative locknut from alu ?
anybody?

finally finished my Hammer12..
it's been 4 yrs since I raced 12 scale
with all the new motors available..
what would be my target rollout?
stock 27T.. CO27 or Epic X?
checkpoint 19T
Mod?
lmk thanks

TimPotter 08-24-2006 01:00 PM

If you can get a 19t class going where you race, I think you will be really happy. 19t is just fast enough, and not too fast... it is also easy to make runtime..

Kingpins?

On the SP12M AE, the Front Susp. kingpins I am having problems with. They both are new and so are the bearings. When I go to put the knuckles on they stick, or jam? Am I supposed to polish them or something or can I?

Thanks.

protc3 08-24-2006 02:11 PM

i reamed the steering knuckle with a 1/8th reamer where the kingpin goes through.they are always really tight

EricF 08-24-2006 02:15 PM

I use an 1/8 reamer. If that doesn't open it up enough then I roll a piece of 6oo grit sand paper and sand until the pin slides smoothly.

before you do any of that make sure to install the axles. some times they put pressure on the hole and can compress it a little bit.

protc3 08-24-2006 02:17 PM

that too.i forgot about that.those damn axles are real tight also.

If you're talking about the std 12M front end (i think so), i had some king pins that were a touch oversize right at the top. Fine down the bottom near teh wishbone, just tight at the top. I just "polished" them right at the top with some 600grit sand paper.
