well said, there should not be sponsored drivers in those classes, the hobby itself needs to get the best exposure and new blood, and to limit the classes for the sponsored drivers is a good start. i think that alot of people dont go to races because they know that there are a certain group of sponsored drivers that will be up there anyway so the fun is already gone before the race starts.

the plus for the companies is that they can say that the winner choose their motor/batteries or whatever to claim the win in a more honest way.

Now if they really want to make it friendly for newer racers then slow it down. I haven't seen a novice yet running a 17.5 with these newer timing advances but I would guess it's ugly.

I Agree, 17.5 is not a beginner class anymore. 21.5 will not be iether if the programing of speedos stay in it. I dont know the answer but i like to see people talking about it.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but I don't see how this will grow the hobby. It will have NO affect on club racing and I don't believe that we'll see a rapid influx of D-main club racers trying to make reservations to the ROAR nationals because they get to race against other D-main club racers. 17.5 is a racing class, NOT a talent level. If ROAR wants to have a Novice class at nationals, then call it what it is.

Tekin also supports this idea. These rules are for ‘Sportsman Stock’, not 17.5 ‘stock’ classes in general.

I think we all agree 17.5 has also gotten too fast for beginners, and for many racers skilled at what was stock speed. Stock racing is an art in itself when you are lacking power and have to carry speed and drive smooth. We are all talking about that problem as well.

It seems to work at the IIC. 17.5 turn out is great.

And as far as club level racing, our track had been discussing this same issue so that newer drivers can come in an learn and not get discouraged. I'm not saying this is the end all be all, but the point is to change the attitudes and peoples view of the sportsman stock class.

Is ROAR offering another class for the nationals or is it only sportsman 17.5 and 13.5?

It will attract more people to race on a more level playing field without the pressure of sponsored or people running in a class that they are to good for.
