Ok, now I know that some of you guys have them already, but 264dollars for a Keyence 0 Extreme???????????????are they insane? Is it really 100 dollars better than the Quantum Comp.? this is a serious question, because if yous guys can convince me that it is I will buy one for my new Mission but I have a really hard time swallowing that it is that much better than the Quantum. From what i can see you are paying alot of moolah for the pretty lights on it and that is about it. Lemme know the lo-down so I can get my order in.

Well I have heard TOOO many BAD things about the Quantums. I won't go into details BUT if you search around rctech you will find what I mean. They tend to get a little TOO HOT and POOOF! Anyhow you can get the Keyence Zero Ext. for around 200 or a little over, I am not sure where you saw it for 269????? Also look into the CS rocketmax. Thats what I ended up buying(I too wanted a Keyence), mainly b/c I got a SUPER deal on it (100 bucks brand new) It has just about all he same features of a Keyence only in a simpler/basic form. I am so happy with mine I imagine you would be too. You can get it NEW from Schumacher for 149.00. Hope that helps you!

Foamdonuts: $269!!! Where'd you see that at. I'm sitting here right now looking at an ad in RCCA. Its from Ultimate hobbies. They are selling the Zero V Extreme for $179.95

The only reason I haven't gone for the Zero V Extreme is because those wires look horrible. Yes, you can replace them, but it voids the warrenty.

Their must be something to like there though, since so many people keep using them dispite the heating problem.

I can second that opinion. I haven't tried a Quantum Comp yet, because of the horror stories I've heard about it, but I can definitely recommend the RocketMax as a GREAT speed control. It's the only speed control I use regularly beside my trusty Tekin G9.

The RocketMax has one cool feature that I haven't seen on any other speedo... every speedo worth it's salt has adjustable coast braking nwoadays, but the RocketMax goes one better and also has coast power... that's right... for stock racing you can set the speed control to keep a little bit of power on for a second or so when you let off the trigger, to overcome the very "brakey" feel of stockers. I know it's possible to just run up the throttle trim so the car crawls when you let off, but I like the CS way better. No embarassing moments on the starting grid...

Hey Foams- This is more a general point but hopefully it helps you out also. I read thru the entire speedo thread and thought that it was very interesting. Being a Business Process Engineer (create/design ways for businesses to achieve their goals/needs) I find that business decisions are made based upon "gut" calls, partial info, and or info that is possibly mis-interpreted. Usually however it is info that has not even been objectively collected , tabulated and verified and their "gut" decisions are usually in the negative compared to all of their positive calls but they tend to remember the positive ones as being in the majority thus validating their bad calls. Case in point- After having several novak speedos I switched to the LRP Quantum and not one problem. I've run 8 turns and normally run 9-10 turns in my 12th scale without it ever getting hot (and I have checked). I have never run the heat sinks and I ran it for some time without the capacitor kit. I know of at least 10 people who have switched from Novak to the quantum in both Off-Road and On-Road, stock and mod who have not had one problem. However, there is 1 person outside of that number who's Quantum worked fine until he wired it backwards and blew it and his other one had a problem with the setup buttom being inconsistent so he sent it in. His opinion based upon his experience now is that the Quantum has too many problems! How he came to THAT conclusion I don't know. But it goes to show what I am talking about. I have personally seen several Novak Cyclones go up in smoke, several stop giving full power (including 2 of mine), and have seen several loose their settings (including 2 of the four I had). This in no way means that Novak ESC's and Products are bad, in fact they are very good I think (I also use their chargers). So what am I saying? The 11 personal racers and 30 casual aquaintances that I know/have seen using LRP Quantums with great success in no way constitutes even 1% of all of the LRP Quantums that have been sold in the USA Alone! So it would be totally inaccurate for me to comment on their durability beyond my experiences just as I can't do so concerning Novak's. Too often it seems in this hobby and in business we as people take too little information and extrapolate it to a majority percentage and then turn it into law and then it becomes The Truth. My advise is that LRP, Novak, the CS Rocket, and Nosram's are all good. They ALL can go bad at any time and for any reason and that is why I think customer service is a key component of an ESC's purchase. LRP has Associated and their service has been sited as top notch although some have dinged it. Novak's service also has been rated as top notch although some have dinged it. Schumacher's service of the CS Rocket has drawn praise but again some have dinged it. Are we seeing a pattern here? I think you should buy a major brand esc that fits your needs & desire, that you can get serviced to satisfactory levels. Also, I highly recommend having a spare if possible at all times just like you would any other electronic device and hopefullly you won't ever need it....but just in case.....

I completely agree with you on the issue. When it comes down to deciding I have to go with the one that I feel comfortable with and the one that is readily available to me. I will most likely end up buying the Keyence and then buy a Quantum as my backup(I can then buy another Quantum or something else if I should break at a big race, they are readily available at all hobby shops)

Now, that we have that issue sorted. Can someone please tell me why the Keyence is "better" than the LRP? I dont want to hear horror stories about stuff I just want good solid opinions.

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHA I found a track that will allow me to run Mod Sedan on FOAMS!!!!!!! and they also stock Schumacher parts, have a MIssion in stock, and carry Keyence ESC's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Oh Happy Day. Visa will be very pleased with me as well.

I dont know when this turned into a ESC page but I have a point of view on this subject.

I have raced a CS rocket and it is one of the better ESC's on the market. I now use the Novak C2 the reason being is that I talked to Brian Kinwald at a race and asked him which ESC is the best out there. What he said is that out of all the ESC's on the market and he has tried them all at one time or another and he said the Novak's are the best out there, they offer more punch and more runtime then then many of the others also you can fully adjust it. The reason that you see alot of "Pro's" with the LRP's is because they get them for free and it is easy to get them from LRP. I have witnessed many of LRP's go up in smoke in the summer heat. and Novak's still running. But thats not to say that Novaks never go bad but like with any pice of electrical equipment they are fragle and the way we drive these toy cars its amazing that any ESC can stand up to what we can put them trough. You can buy what you want but from I learned talking to one of the best drivers in the world made me change my mind.

Please keep in mind that darnold uses the Quantum in a 1/12th scale which, being extremely light and dragfree, draws much less current than in a touring car.

Kevin K: If I'm not mistaken, Kinwald is sponsored by Novak isn't he? That would make his opinion just a weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bit bias wouldn't it? And as for the Pros using LRP because they get them free, doesn't Brian get his Novaks free, or does he walk into the LHS and buy them just like we do........doubt it.

THe C2 is a great speedo, and until somebody unseats it, its tops in the esc department. But definitely not because Brian says so.

Novak does need to make it smaller though.
