MVP Gearing
What we've found over time on a Robitronic Dyno is this:
A 30000RPM MVP is 35/100 on a 115' Straight A 31000RPM MVP is 34/100 " " " " " A 32000RPM MVP is 33/100 " " " " " I use 64 pitch for closer roll-out changes. Take in account the length of the straightaway on your road-course and then add or deduct a tooth. |
Greg,
Had a few questions on setup for rubber on ozite carpet. I've only had the tc3 on the rug once!! What oil/spring combination are you guys having luck with? I was running 70/50wt oil with yellow/red springs on sorex 24/28 tires!! Should I lighten the suspension up a bit? I noticed that you guys are running this combination but on foam. Brad |
RCLUV > Linger is correct but since the temp is cooler now, many drivers are going to back to the Yok Sprints or the Sorex 32, which is for cooler tempatures.
If you want a good place to practice, then you need to go to Revelation. Wide open no hacking that sometimes happens at SoCal because of the size. Dont get me wrong, SoCal is good, you just need some skills first. It is very competitive and can get discouraged easy. Just take your time and try the parking lots first. Hobby people will start racing soon and their novice class is pretty good. |
Setup
Brad,
In my opnion, the setup I posted earlier in the thread is a great place to start for rubber on Ozite. Indeed your setup seems a bit stiff, which should cause the car to push and act a bit skatey or loose in the corners. If not, it may be generatign enough traction by heating up the tires more(stiffer the suspension, the more traction or friction you put to the tire. Are you going through tires at a pretty good pace? If you get a chance, try my setup and see what you think as it's a significant leap from yours. This should allow you to see the handling changes and analyze if there's things you like and can adopt into your own setup. Let me know if you do. If you want to make an easy change, to see what a more balanced setup feels like, go to 50wt front and red front. This will add more front bite without sacraficing transition speed in short sections. I would suggest a front one-way for more steering if needed. |
Thak you for the advice guys.
wolfeman09 > Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it. I'll try to take it easy and practice at parking lot first. I was thinking about buying a stock motor maybe p2k2 pro or reedy mvp. But I think I need to practice and check out the tracks I would compete then I'll make my mind on setup for the competition. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress. :D |
Greg,
Thanks for the setup info. I seem to be generating plenty of traction with that setup, I'm running mod so the tires are heating up rather quickly. I currently do run a front oneway unit, maybe going to 50wt on all fours and red springs all the way around will help with overall performance. I'm running the 3+0 block in the rear with 4 degree castor blocks and 2 degrees kickup up front. Shocks are located in the middle hole all the way around. Brad |
Greg
do you have a good foam setup too?
Thx |

Sometimes with a higher ratio, you can be faster than putting a lower ratio that chokes your motor. |
ive found the best way to gear the gm3 is with the 64p gears, i runn 100t spur and a 33-36t pinion depending on the track. the car flies when geared like this. I might try a p2k2 for the rest of the indoor season.

Wolfeman09 > Do they (revelation, hobby people) have websites or could you give me address, phone number?
Thank you in advance. |
