I just acomplished creating a spool with the stock diff parts you get with a factory team tc3, it took about 30 minutes to make and that includes cleaning all the parts, if anyone is intrested post and I'll reply.

Thats what im using right now too, a stock diff without the balls, works pretty well

Is that it, just no diff balls, seems like the diff would need alot of shimming afterwards.

are you guys using the stock plastic outdrives? if so are you running stock or mod? i made one with the steel outdrives that im using on asphalt right now. i think i will still get the irs one though next time i run.

i am using steel ones leftover from my old tc3, i figured the plastic ones would break in a hard crash.

Actually I made my first spool out of the composites but after thinking about the spool and after seeing how some aluminums come out after a hard race or two, I think I'm gonna convert it to the steel outdrives. Mine is basically like Johnny's but I made diff rings out of the AE double-sided tape.

ya, lol i cant see the composites lasting very long as a spool setup in stock or mod, hell they dont last long as a diff!

where have all the regulars on this thread been? it looks like alot of them have switched to xray from what i have seen.

Tips, hints, suggestions on making the drivetrain on the TC3 extremely FREE?????

Some tips which you may find usefull for freeing up the drive train

1. Sand the gaer boxso that the bearings are not pinched (ie. blueprinting)
2. Shim the drive train correctly so that there is no binding
3. Flush out the thick grease in the bearings and apply light bearing oil
4. Use high quality bearings
5. Remove inner seals of the bearings in the gear box

Can i ask why ppl remove the seals from the bearings in the trans case?

Depending on the bearings you use you may need to remove the seal so there is less friction.

Most seals tend to rub against the bearing cage causing friction. Most people just remove one seal on the side not exposed to dirt.

What part of the transmission case are you shaving, the bearing wheel or somewhere else???

You shave the bearing recesses in the diff cases.

As for bearings, if you don't mind maintaining your bearings every week you can go with no seals for the least friction.
