Does anyone here run the sp ultra sportsman 17.5? Would that be considered the v2? I found one at a good price and looking to here some opinions on it. I currently run the lrp x11 17.5 and I'm not really happy with it. I run the sp lpf gt 2.0 with the 107 software. Any opinions on this motor would be appreciated!

Well, got back from the track today and well... not a good day
My blue star GT2.0 is now sitting unwired on my desk, having seemingly closely followed my comp3 10.5 on the way too mega hot-dom. Double
Basically think, that for the first time in a long while, I pushed the motor just too far. Was running the 107 software, and whilst it had been coming off quite hot, felt there was more to come, so turned the DRRS up one notch to 8, and then it went pop... So, think I found the limit, at that gearing at least!
Prior to that it had certainly been fast, running;
Firmware; 107STOCK
ESC Timing; 22°
DRRS; 7
Drag brake; 10%
Intial brake; Drag
Dead band; 6ms
FDR; 5.93
Motor timing; +10°
Rotor; Red ring (12.5mm outer/5mm core)
So, as a warning, you really need to be hot (geddit) on the temps... I think probably what I should have done was up the ESC timing over the DRRS. Oh well, live and learn.
Cheers
Ed

Ouch, that doesn't sound good Ed!
Just got my GT2.0 through today, hopefully going to try it out tomorrow night at a club meeting before Eversley at the weekend.
A few quick questions:
1) The capacitor that is included - is it necessary to run it all the time?
2) Any tips on a starting point for gearing? I'm thinking 107 software, with DDRS at 8 and ESC timing at 22.5. Motor is a SP v3 13.5, std rotor, timing at middle point, track is 19m x 12m with a full length straight.
3) I'm guessing a "safe" max motor temp is 70 deg C?
Thanks for any tips
Oli

2. 4.5ish FDR, like any new esc and motor gear conservatively and make changes according to feel and temp
3. 170F is higher than I would personally go

Sorry if this was covered before but I have some questions regarding to the SP 13.5 V3.
The motor comes with a purple rotor factory assembled. I assume it is this one:
http://www.speedpassion.net/en/productDetails.asp?p=91
There is an other purple rotor in the option parts, this one:
http://www.speedpassion.net/en/productDetails.asp?p=86
What is the difference in appearance and/or in dimensions between the two?
Is the second one fits in the 13.5?
If so how will it affect the performance of the motor?
Thanks

A few quick questions:
1) The capacitor that is included - is it necessary to run it all the time?
Definately YES !!!
2) Any tips on a starting point for gearing? I'm thinking 107 software, with DDRS at 8 and ESC timing at 22.5. Motor is a SP v3 13.5, std rotor, timing at middle point, track is 19m x 12m with a full length straight.
DRSS 8 just makes unnecessary heat in my opinion.
Prefer 5 or 6 with 107. Has plenty rip especially if you lower the timing and gear up a bit. As suggested though start conservative with gearing and go from there.
3) I'm guessing a "safe" max motor temp is 70 deg C?
60-65 deg/c max but with 107 i am getting performance with temps consistantly below 60 deg/c

for those of you also running USVTA with your speed passion setups, can you comment on what you have noticed as far as the timing settings on the Speed Passion GT2.0s (Pro or LPF) that seem to be more comparable to the performance of non-timing ESCs like a Novak Havoc or GTB? DARKSIDE is looking for info on this on the thread, and my experience was that the 11.25 timing or the step below seemed about the same to what the Havoc driver was doing speed wise, but I am not on a larger track so can't comment if it keeps revving out.

Still, forgot to mention that the 107Stock was also working really well in my 12th... plenty of grunt on the infield, and good top end... although I think my lack of 12th running is telling as I really need to true my rear tyres down, 50mm... almost big enough to eat thoose lol!
Cheers

It could be that I was still way under-geared though, and the motor hadn't found it's sweet spot.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck Ed. So was it just motor damage or did it overheat the speedy also?
I tried 107 and thought it was a bit too aggressive especially in warmer weather with a 10.5 (33-35 degrees C ambient temp). It had awesome grunt but motor gets hot quickly, then fades. I'm going to try 110 this wkend.

V3 motor
Question
Can I retard the timing on these motor?
Where is the zero timing mark?
