Yokomo BD5 Gear Diff
Hi first time post for me and have gained alot from reading the previous posts. We race in Australia mostly on ashpalt surfaces. Running Modified at present (or my son is).
We have purchased a Yokomo BD5 gear diff and was wandering what drive shafts should be used? Can you use the TOP drive shafts with this diff? any advice is appreciated.

If your running on asphalt with rubber tires I'd suggest something like a 50wt / 400cst oil to start with. Your car will start to turn a lot more... so watch out!

I'm not sure if your planning on running the Yokomo Gear Diff in the front or the rear. I have run it in the rear so far with the stock length drive shafts (44.5mm). The only think you must do is install the Yokomo blades.

The yokomo diff leaks less. With the spec-r you will have a line of oil down your body and bulkheads from the seam that binds the two half's together. I haven't run the yokomo diff a lot but if it holds up as good ad the spec-r ill be happy.

has anybody tried the TOP gear diff yet?

would you still run a spool in front or another gear diff or a ball diff?
I don't know much about the gear diff yet.. but we're moving to asphalt soon and I would like to go faster than fast.

The TOP/Micro Pro/U-Pro diff is ok, it won't do mod, and maybe won't be as smooth due to design, but is fine for some things.
I ran mine a few weeks back with 100k front and stock fill rear, generally I really liked it, the car had insane steering everywhere, smooth into super bumpy corners with ability to pick any line, but in some ways while I did some good times, I'm not sure if I was overall faster than spool/ball, because having that ability meant your were not always on the fastest line.

Yokomo gear diff front and rear, sounds interesting.
What advantages did you see from running spool in the front and normal top diff in the rear on asphalt?
