But then the kit would be much more expensive. Also you have to pay then for gears you maybe won´t need. If you´re just running stock like me you never need those small pinions used for modified. Same is for a guy running just modified and no stock. Also I never would pay for those crap (sorry) Tamiya pinions.

what spur and pinion should i run for 540 on a small/medium track?
if the tamiya are crap, what brand should i buy. some part numbers would be appreciated

I like HPI pinons...
And how many turn is your 540 motor?If you're talking about the silver can ones,then maybe you could gear something like 102Spur(Comes with the car) and a 40 - 43 Pinon...Try it out...If it feels sluggish out of corner and you feel the long straight has fast enough speed,you might want to use a smaller pinon to give it some punch.And vice versa...

this motor, i think it comes stock in the ta05, and is what we use in the 540 TC class. ( is 27 turn?) 
Tamiya R/C 540 Johnson Motor [53689]
Alternatively i can use this JOHNSON 540 (grey end bell) motor .. not sure what the diff is though

I´m using Xenon gears and really like them. Yokomo and HPI/HB also sell Xenon. The ones from Speedtech also are Xenon. But Kawada and PRS also seem very good. Regarding pinions my favourites are RW but I don´t know if these are available in the USA. Robitronic and GM-Racing sell them. Beside them I also have some Trinity/Kinwald aluminium pinions what are not bad also.
Regarding the Johnson I´m not sure. Years ago we ran Mabuchis what look the same and these were 21T, but much less power than 27T that time. Regarding gearratio I don´t know. Best is let us know what gears and car your running now/before. But I think you should use a spur of 96 or even less teeth. I´m running 72teeth 48DP what is the same as 96teeth 64DP with 27T motors.

I have a 415MS.
And always have problems with my differential .
Is there anything else that i can use instead of Tamiya's?
More reliable?
I have changed the little lock nut and the cap screw, I try to tight it but from the point that is starts being more stiff my screw ''jumps''!

I am a fan of the Xenon gears and have just ordered a bunch of them for my MSX. I also like to use Titanium Racing pinions as well.
On the MSX though, I managed to get the car working very nicely with just the LW suspension. Only got 1 race in before rain but the car was working nicely, had good grip throughout and generally carried more cornerspeed. Plus... there is well and truly more to come with the car as it was lacking a little bit from the front end. Very happy with the car at this stage, and this is running with the center post modification like what MDawson posted earlier on the 2.5mm MS chassis in Modified.

Not sure what your problem is really, but I found that Acer Racing ceramic balls helps a lot with the diff. You can find them here they will make the diff so smooth you won't believe it. Also, make sure your diff plates are in good condition and that your thrust bearing is clean (I find it gets gritty very quickly and is usually the main reason for the diff being gritty).

Someone knows if spare parts for the MSX are already available? Someone at the last race broke an upper deck and had to change car then.
