I did buy a few of the GE Power 4000 25C and 5000 25C batteries (2 of each, in case I get a bad one) which seem to be exceptionally cheap. They cost me about $33 and $52 each (yep, you do pay a massive premium for those extra 25% capacity of the 5000 over the 4000) and the tests came up well.

I got them on e-bay. I search for words like LiPo, Li-Po, 25C, 30C and 7.4v (not all at once or you get nothing) and then I wade through the results trying to find interesting batteries to purchase and test. If I like what I test, I buy more.
That is how I found the Yeah batteries in the first place and now the GE's.
The merchant that sold me the batteries advertises them as:

Yep, they definitely do not have hard cases. I run them in a 1/8th scale buggy and thus need 2 of them to fit into a single battery tray.
I forgot that Yeah do have hard cases as I remove the hard case the moment I get them.
I am not sure how much a hard case would protect a battery anyway. I had one of my batteries come loose and rest on the spur, which not surprisingly cut into the battery exposing the inners. Unless the hard case was made from steel or titanium, I expect my spur would have cut through any plastic case (my spur is hardened steel spinning at 12500 rpm).
Looks like the inside of my LiPo was made up of thin layers of copper sheets with some black paste between the copper sheets. Under heavy load the black paste goes liquid, in a rested state it is pretty solid.
Even though the battery has a slice in it and lost some of its content it has not lost much capacity (its now a 3900 mah battery instead of a 4000) and it still delivers 25C. I put 2 layers of clear heatshrink around it so it does not ooze too much black goo out while racing and I can keep an eye on it.

Why do you remove the hard case?
I have chassis-es that have the ribs as they were designed for the side-by-side and/or stick pack sub-Cs. I would prefer not to cut it as they may violate certain race rules so I thought the hard cases would come in useful in such applications.

I need to put 2 LiPo's on top of each other into a single battery tray, and keeping the hard cases makes it too thick to fit in. The battery itself is only 13mm thick, thus I can fit 2 of them at 26mm into a single battery tray.
My vehicle runs at 14.8v.
I tried keeping the hard case inititally and made up a new battery strap to cater for having 2 batteries in 1 bay, but then my body did not fit on. I then modified the vehicle to raise the body, but it handled terribly with that configuration, so the easiest way was to ditch the hard cases.

Any plans on when these are going to be sent in for ROAR approval?
Also... does the 4000 lipo have the cell dimples on the bottom like the 3200 lipo??
And... Can you special order the 4000 to have the wires come out a top corner instead of the end middle? Reason I ask, is because I am planning on using these packs for practice in my B4/T4 and where the wires are coming out right now.. you either have foam there, or the end of the battery tray.

To get batteries ROAR approved you need to supply ROAR with 4 batteries and $250. They approve batteries twice a year.
In the current short product life-cycles of LiPo batteries due to them being new technology which is improving every few months and the long lead time for ROAR approval many manufacturers appear to find it pointless in getting their batteries approved. By the time they are approved they have already replaced them with better batteries which then need approval.
ROAR should be approving batteries on a monthly basis if they are serious about getting manufacturer interest in having their batteries approved.
