That setup is $$ money $$ with the 5.5! Thanks Randy!

That setup also dropped the temps of the motor and ESC 10 degrees.

I've since vented the body more to promote better airflow in the B44 and the temps are more reasonable now.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

I got a pm and was asked what I was using on my oval 4 cell 13.5 car setup wise on my speedo so I decided to post it here to. Sensored only...Boost all the way up and the motor timing all the way down. I run my neutral. setting at 10 . And my throttle on most aggresive . No brake at all. My oval lipo car is the same except I run neutral at 8.

What's a good place to start with ESC setup and gearing for a DUO 17.5? Running on-road/carpet/rubber/medium-sized track with good grip.

Are you running the stock 180 firmware or did you get the 189?

If you have the 189 Randy posted a good setup just a few posts up. To run it, you will want to turn the motor timing on the can down to zero if the DUO lets you. If it doesn't, a good general rule of thumb for 189 is motor timing + boost = 30-35° and bear in mind that you'll end up with a numerically higher FDR that you normally would for a 17.5. Watch your temps first time out.

If you have version 180 (what the ESC would have come with) I'd suggest cranking the motor timing on the can all the way advanced and running "sensored only" mode. Dial in 90% advance in the ESC as well -- this only applies to hybrid mode (to the sensorless part), but it's good to have it in there for backup in case your sensor cable comes off or is damaged.

All of this assumes you have the Hotwire.

If you have the standard 1.80 firmware in the speedo, you might try running dual moe with the timing advance at 100, current limit off, drag brake 40, brake strength 80, neutral width 10, brushless forward only, throttle profile 3, endbell bolts in the middle holes.

Mine ran GREAT like that geared around 3.85

What's everyone's take on the redline motors that come in the RS combo's? Comparable to Novak, LRP, Hacker or what? I know there will be some bias, but don't want to buy something that is going to end up as a paper weight.

That's basically how I ran my SP17.5 and it ran almost like a 13.5 -- outstanding. It is a fixed timing motor though. The reason my recommendation was different was because at the time, guys with adjustable motors were claiming better results in sensored-only with cranked motor timing.

I like less drag brake and max brakes, but that's personal preference.

syndr0me -- obviously there are options, and I'm confident you'll be psyched either way.

The guys aet my track all steered me toward cranking the endbell and running sensored mode, but after trying it both ways I felt it was better for me in dual mode... probably comes down to personal preference in the end.

In Dual mode at 100 on the Timing Advance bar you're getting 30 degrees of timing.

If you had your endbell cranked on a Tekin and sensored only and no boost you're at about 39 degrees. This would require a few pinions to be greared down to get the right gearing.

For a 6.5 you really should not be in sensored only mode AND no boost. However if you're dead set on it I'd turn the motor timing all the way down to 0. Check motor temps often to prevent overheating.

My 4wd mod offroad setup with a 6.5 for example:
