What about the commutator? Is that black too?
Check your finger. That could be the problem. Too much keyboard usage can cause blackening of the commutator.
Possible causes :-
1. QD type driving
2. Wrong Gearing
3. Brake too much
4. Brush not seated
etc.......

i take it that the brush face that is no longer smooth...pitting? too much brush-bounce....from weak/less spring tension most likely.
a good bud once complained that sparks were coming out of his brand new 23T katana. Saw the sparks...nice lil' fireworks tho ...like someone sharpening knife with grinder apparently...he fell asleep during break-in....the poor motor ran for 4 hours!!! Took the comm few serious cuts to remove the grooves

No its not overheating.....after i truer the comm, its is shiny.....but as soon as I run in the motor at 3V, the comm turns blakish again....I guess its the brushes fault as it is greyish in colour already.......that is why I'm askin how to maintain the brush........
Would I have to change the brushes or is there any way I can clean the brushes.......Btw, the brush is still long and used a few times only....

TPG Racer,
Will the same thing happen again when you change to a NEW pair of brush?
Are there a lot of sparks when the motor is running?
Did you do anything to the timing lock?
Are your hoods aligned?
Is it on load or free spinning when you run at 3V?
There are just so many possibilities, without a clear description of what you do or did, I dont think any of us can possibly give you the correct answer. Only suggestions. You will have to observe and explain in detail.

Hey,
I've got a 23t race coming up in a month or two, can anyone tell me the 23t motor to have at the moment? Atlas, Kawada, Luna, Orion etc???
Which motors are the gun motor at the moment?
The track is a fairly small indoor carpet track, so power/torque is good, but the back straight needs a bit of rpm.
I have an asphalt race coming up later in the year, so any advice on more rpm based motors would be good too.
All help will be appreciated,
Cheers,
Robbie
