Your 17.5 comes with a sintered rotor.

Oh I know many of those been testing. All Im sure will continue too when they prep for another Big event. Motors are close to brushed,But brushed still have a slight edge. Great motor to compare to stock no less. The 1 brushless was run by Chuck lonergan in 1/12 stock he after 2 A mains out of 3 is sitting about 7th overall. As far as testing we all know many many hours of prep go into these events.......

So from what I se so far 17.5's a good motor to run against stocks, At club levels most can win with them Im sure. Great for easy use and more track time and chassie tunning time which is key. Just for now at Nationals seems brushed in 17.5 class have a slight advantage...

I ran against 2 guys this past Saturday that had 17.5. TQ was a 17.5 with a fast 61 I was 2nd with a mid 61 and the other 17.5 in 3rd with 17.5. The rest of the A was running brushed like my self, 5 make the show 1 bump up from the b. The TQ 17.5 would have won the A but got caught up in a scuffle with a lap car. They are FAST, no maintenance. I'm not sure what rotor they have but they have money to buy the magnet meter and multiple rotors. These guys use a can of dust spray to freeze the motors before each run. I didn't freeze mine but I know it helps.

We race Dirt oval, 6 cell, Track is 125' drive line

March 15th results. Big Block A main I finished 1st the two 17.5s finished 2nd and 3rd

Yes in Oval they will be slightly faster, Slightly that is. But not in On Road just yet.

This is a On Road fourm.. No pun intended...I was only refrering to On Road. I know in Oval down here 17.5 is about a lap faster than stock .

It did look like most guys choose 27 t over brushless, just scanning the cars in stock. I was watching a buddy who was running BL vs. the eventual winner of 1/12 stock. The motors did look close, but the brush motor was probably a bit faster overall. BL looked as fast or faster out of the hole to me, especially when they came out of the 180* in the middle of the track. But yeah brush 27 did look to have the edge.

Good report Rob..

I spoke to my buddy lastnight, Whom runs Oval. He is a 5 time ROAR National Champion ,Snowbirds multi winner ect. About the Oval side. He ran a 17.5 this past weekend on OVAL. He won with the 17.5 motor. He sees the gain not in top speeds but in overall eficancy. He said the brushed is just as fast and equal for the first 2-3 minutes then drop 4 tenth toward a 4 min mark where the 17.5 only drops 2-3 tenth thus making the 17.5 the advantage,Not overall speed. His diffrence he see's brushed to brushless 4 cell pan cars 1/2 lap. This is only this class,Not to say another say 6 cell class is same. Just some more findings.

I qualified 10th in the B-Main in Stock TC at the Nats this last weekend and was running a Novak 17.5, I think there may have been one more in the b with me, but not certain. I do think I should have run 27t though, the car was great, just had to push the BL to the brink of meltdown to be fast. I smoked 2 motors over the weekend, it seemed if I got a good run 10.8's-10.6's lap times, the motor was junk the next qualifier. I dropped out in the 3rd qualifier and the main due to this. I admit I was geared way up, around 59-60mm rollout, but that was the only way to be competitive. If I could do it over I would run 27t, I think that I could have put in the show if I did. But as they say hind site is always 20/20!

Must have been just you and me running brushless in the "B" then. I qualified 9th.... and I know for a fact all 8 who qualified ahead of me were running CO27's.

I finished 14th overall though. But felt like it was slow in comparison.

I felt that the 17.5 was competitive in 1/12th scale only if you could keep a really smooth corner. If a turn was taken too sharp or too fast, that is where it felt like the 27T's had the advantage. For club and local racing...the 17.5 is probably the right motor to go with, but for national level racing where people will be re-building and tuning their brushed motors for every run...17.5 just really didn't hold its own in the upper mains...especially in a touring car. Just my two cents...

On the other side of things, the 10.5 seemed to be the motor of choice for the majority of racers in Super Stock...any one have any numbers for how many were running 19T brushed vs 10.5 in the A's and B's in Super Stock TC and 1/12th?

Did anybody try running Novak's stator heatsink? It pulls a LOT of heat out of the motor, and may allow you to pull the big gear without damaging them. You can even get one with a fan, if you can make it balance.

..i have a question on the 17.5 vs 27t deal.

It's my understanding that with the PUSH of Brushless - there is no plan to keep Brushed 27t and 17.5 mixed as a class, but instead the goal was to find a Brushless motor that provided a speed close and similar to that of the 27t motor.

From everything I've read - the 17.5 motor seems to be a lot closer to the speed of a 27t than either a 13.5 or a 10.5...

So my question is - IS THIS THE CASE in ON-ROAD Racing?

IF the ENTIRE Field is ALL running 17.5 MOTORS - would the racing resemble the speeds of an entire field of 27t cars? (NO MIXING)

2nd question would be - Would the field have a better chance of running closer lap times w/ the B/L motor vs the Brushed motor?

3rd questioin - Which would require LESS work and skill to get the motor performance of the TQ?
