Bearing maintance
Hi guys,
this how i have been looking after my bearing, please list other possible ways. Every 3 rd meeting i have been removing all my bearings, removing their seals both sides and soak them in Shellite ( lighter fluid), i leave over night, wishthem around and drain, i then give then another soak with fresh shellite and repeat the process.
I take them out dry them replace one side of the seal and place 4 drops of trinty royal bearing oil and close the other side.
I have used products like wd40 before also. But i am interested to hear when and how you all look after your bearing, and are there better types of bearings to use.

I just remove the seals, blast them with motor spray, spin then and continue the process till they spin freely, then a drop or two of royal oil, wack the seals back on and you good to go. Light grease it to thick and if your a racer forget it. Another thing is that trinity ball bearing oil is also thicker so use royal oil for best results.

.
I take the seals off both sides, soak them in kerosene then blast them with a compressor. Do this twice then drop them into a bowl of methanol to clean, then drop a few drops of royal oil then blast again with compressor and let it spin using force of the air. You should here the bearing whine similar to a motor spooling up. I found that this is also a good test to see that the bearing is still ok... the higher the 'whine' the better the bearing. Re-oil then pop seals back in.
ps hold the bearing securely while blasting with comp. also aim the nossle on the balls at an angle to get it to spin...may need a little practice. Hope this helps

I put dirty bearings in a plastic container (used to store films for cameras.)
I then blast them with WD 40.
Close the container, shake hard. You will see the amount of grime...
Remove the dirty oil, and reblast as necessary. The gritty feel must be gone.
I once used a very nice oil called break free (in the early 90's). Best oil I have ever used, but can no longer find it.

How do you get the seals off the bearings? I dont really take great care of my bearings and would like to know how to matenience them properly so I dont have to replace them as often. Would soaking them in denatured alcohol work once I get the seals off?
