Is it necessary to get new parts to fit a brushless? I'm thinking of getting the R5 but dont really want have to spend on extras that I could spend on hopups and spares.

I was able to fit a Tekin 13.5 in the pod once I removed the top plate to do so.

No, the B/L pod parts aren't necessary. I've been running a Trinity Duo 17.5 in my stock R5 pod with no problems or issues, but I decided to get the B/L pod parts just so I could see if I can notice any difference. Speaking solely for myself, if it makes even the slightest improvement in my lap times and/or consistency, it's well worth it to me.

I would say go ahead and get the R5 and run your brushless motor in the stock pod. You'll love the car. And you can always get the brushless pod parts at a later time if you want to try it out.

I raced my R5 with the brushless pod for the first time yesterday. The biggest difference I noticed was that the car was a bit more stable at top speed down the long straightaway with no tendency to want to wander. The wandering wasn't bad at all with the stock pod, but still it was perfect down the straight with the B/L pod. The rear end felt more planted, but was still just as quick to react side-to-side through "S" curves and 180's. It also tracked perfectly straight at the standing start of each heat, something it only seemed to do 1/2 of the time for me with the regular pod.

Also, now that the rear end of the car is just about perfectly balanced without having to turn one tweak screw a little tighter than the other, the car also seems to turn perfectly equally to the left and right. Not that it was "bad" with the stock pod. It's also quite a bit easier to swap motors in and out with the more open B/L pod. I ran a Trinity Duo 17.5 yesterday and will be running a 13.5 on Friday and back to the 17.5 on Sunday.

So all in all, IMHO, I would say that if you're a very sensitive driver, you'll notice an improvement with the B/L pod. It makes an awesome car "awesomer". Just my $.02

Is there any tips for getting the side spring retainers on the set screws straight. No matter what I do they want to go on crooked

I took a 2mm drill bit and drilled them through. After that I took a M3 tap and made a M3 thread inside them. After doing this the set screws will go good and straight into them and they will stay in one piece...

If nothing is sacred and you dont mind using other brands of stuff on your car , get the ones from CRC. I think the spring will fit

Hey guys its been pretty quiet around here. Thought I would get some info. How often are you guys changing the front springs? I guess when they need reshimed it time to repalce them. The track I race at is really hard on the right front..

Anyone know if AE will make a running change from the brushed rear pod to a brushless rear pod in the 12R5 kits?

AE is saying that the R5 is brushless ready as it is. My 13.5 fits in just fine and balances on the spot. Why a change other than to center the pod and spend an additional $50?
