Wow, I just spent, well, more time than I should, reading all that. I thought I was being dangerous back in the day when I cut through the + and - leads on my stick pack to replace the Tamiya connector with a Deans. At least I've learned this; I have no need of lipo right now! I club race touring 19t infrequently and will see no benefit from swapping out my nimh for lipo. As long as keep Spintecing my GP3700s (that's not a typo) I should be fine and maintain my ability to punt my lipo competitors exiting turns. When my nimh die I'll probably replace them with whatever flavor of the day batt SMC has on hand! Thank you everybody I believe you just saved me $300-$400 for a lipo compatible charger and 2 lipo batts!

hey i used to say that as well.. but i made the switch and i dont have to spinctate a thing. i have time to run other classes or work on my car instead of babysitting cells . you will see once you make the switch. as for power!! get a sphere tc and a novak 10.5 and really spank 'em hard... spintatingly speaking of course!!

$300-$400 for a lipo charger, wow. I just use an fma scorpian balancing charger: $60 with the charging pigtail. You also only need 1 lipo pack for each car you race. So going Lipo will cost you $180 total (including the smc lipo pack,) which is equal to 3 nimh packs, or 2.5 high end team packs. But I guess to each their own.

Poppa Ray... don't read into the hype of this thread too much. As much as these guys swear it makes a "huge" difference... you don't need to worry about it unless you are in the show at the Nats, etc... and at that point it you will get busted doing it anyway.
Don't be afraid of the lipo revolution.

Our Prototype/Samples came in today and I must say that our manufacturer has come through on these new 28C packs as the capacity , average voltage and IR is very impressive.
We cycled the packs using a CE Lipo Turbo35/GFX using a 5 amp charge and a 35 amp discharge down to 6 volts.
5000/28C pack cycled out at 542 seconds (5268mAh) , 7.38 average voltage and 6.1 Internal Resistance.
4000/28C pack cycled out at 423 seconds (4112mAh) , 7.33 average voltage and 7.2 Internal Resistance.

Those numbers are through a Dean's connector.

Danny/SMC always seems to be at the cutting edge of thecnology .
I would like to see what the #'s are like from the Orion 3600 with barrel connectors . My charger won't give average voltage or do 35 amps, let alone i.r. . Seems to me the round cells have more snap, but not the ability to sustain voltage over time. I'd love to see a chart plotting the two discharge cycles against one another . For that matter , I wonder what #'s the pros have in their cars compared to what I can buy right from SMC ?

John,
If you are talking about NiMH cells like 4200 or 4600 I think the difference between the packs the team drivers get and what you can buy is darn near nothing.
As far as Lipo, I bet that will be nothing as well.
