(quote) I don't think so. The early silver 4 vent can was manufactured by Mabuchi and did have a slightly softer brush. The newer 2 vent can you see as OEM on the currently released Tamiya kits is manufactured by Johnson. Both of these motors are 27T, 0' timing.
Hi madjack
Interesting , i have 2 x early 4 slot silver can 540 motors both of these motors have Johson engraved / branded on them
i ran one in a club meeting this weekend that runs under TCS Rules and was Actually Scrutinized by the marshals and cleared as they
inspected the motor they to could see the brand name "Johnson ".on the shaft end of the can .
so did Mabuchi make them on behalf of Johnson ??
BTW i Did not feel any benefit from the older 4 slot motor over the newer 2 slot motor , however I only run in general club meets and not full on Competition events ( i wish i was that good )
but hey its only my 2 cents worth

There were 2 different motors. the MABUCHi had a gold sticker on it, and well I think they sucked unless you ran them backwards. there was the 4 hole Johnsons, which were the faster of the silvercans. then the current johnson 2 hole can almost as good as the older 4 hole but bout 2,000 rpm short, but a little better torque.

the other thing i found with the 4 slot can was it apears to run a lot hotter then the 2 slot , both geared the same rollout on the same car

as for the heat they have less torque so they would build more heat.

Has anyone here tried using acetone on the reinforced black rims? I tried soaking the stock gray rims to see if I can reuse the rims and the whole thing melted.

Acetone and plastics dont mix. If you really need to resuse tamiya wheels you have to use a hobby knife and dremel grind the left over rubber. If these were generic wheels you can boil them but tamiya wheels are different.

Only the rim with Nylon based can use it. You can check the rim by its flex..
Hope this help

I'm thinking to use solid axle to minimise wheel spin.
Answer for your question about 22t pinion ? I think it's not possible, max. is 21t ( after the spur gear is worn out ). As everybody know this is illegal for TCS / TAC .

use
the gear diff with thickgrease add extra shims and tighten the 3 screws evenly ,works for me,the mini launches out of corners on a high grip track
though it does work its way loose eventually

The LHS told me that the other mini bodies fits the mo3. Mercedes roadster I think. Is this confirmed?

Hi guys. . . Will a Tamiya 1300mah battery finish a 8 mins. race in a MO3 using a tamiya sport-tuned motor? Thanks

for a 5minute race, with a few warm up laps, my 3300's uses around 1200mah.
if your 1300's charge to 1500 then you may make it, but will go soft, so its best to get some 3300's.
cheers
