The Moped ESC is a bit of hit and miss ... some last but a lot fail quickly as well.
As for X patterns , I have had stock of these for months. Not sure if they are rereleased but the originals that we have are very good :D

It's the details that make a good job.

Yeah, spent some time on the detail with this one. It all went well too, with no major problems. Just as well as this one is mine!

Thinking about messing around with minis. So if I buy the swift kit, I need damper shocks, ball bearings for transmission. anything else? With the included 540, how far behind would I be against the tuned cars? What is the cheapest setup to take to the track?

In our club, the guys that are really experienced racers can run up front even with the stock friction dampers and plastic bushings. For the rest of us  my experience has been that ball bearings and M-chassis oil dampers are the most effective hop-ups.

For the motor, it really just depends on how serious people are where you race. If guys are running "red dot" or otherwise tuned silver cans you'll be at a significant disadvantage. If not, then it's all good.

I'd recommend just building the kit bone stock plus bearings and running it that way for a while. It takes a while to learn to drive these things and after a few races you'll know where you stand.

Cancelled your subscription to the brush-of-the-month club?....

Click here to read our review on the new Hobbywing 540 brushless system.

Hint - Cash up your credit card first because you'll probably want one after reading this.

Good report Tony.

We have found the same thing while testing the Hobbywing system. We tried the 3300kV motor (slightly higher than you) and found no real difference as well. Times were very close to a good performing Black Can

Looking good for the future

hi guys,

just wondering what esc work best with mini??

i am using the tamiya teu101bk , seem ok for me....

monkeyracing 08-23-2008 05:12 PM

The stock Tamiya ESC is actually pretty good for club racing the Minis, as long as everyone sticks with a spec driveline. If you get into a situation where people are running different motors or "tuned" (cheaters!) cans like red dots, then you may be at a slight disadvantage.

The Novak XRS is a great upgrade ESC for minis. It's affordable, very small/light, and does offer a slight upgrade from the Tamiya ESC.
