hey all:
just built my first Mini (M03R). What a breeze to build. A few questions though:
I put on my TRF shocks and there is quite a bit of slop which causes the shock to move front to back - what did you guys do to correct this?
Also, the steering linkage rubs against the chassis - is anybody else having this problem?
thanks

Tamiya S-grip tires in front with maybe double inserts (to expand the diameter of the tire and effectively get a little more "gearing" or rollout)
Tamiya M-grip tires with standard inserts in rear
70 wt oil front with short white (stiff) springs
50 wt oil in rear with short yellow (medium) springs
Internal spacers in shocks to lower ride height.
Shimmed gear diff or tightened ball diff to get better acceleration out of corners.
I think that's about it. My son's spun out at the TCS race, so we were advised to just use traction compound on the inside 1/4 of the front tires and all the way across the rears.
That's our set-up. Good luck.

As for the steering rub, I'm assuming you are rubbing the gear case. They included a set of spacers to push the servo farther forward if you use a servo that does not have enough height from the mounting ears. Take a look and see if that would help.

Don't worry about the shocks moving, it doesn't make any difference. We've run the car like that and it makes no difference at all. If it really freaks you too much, then put an o ring on there to take out the slop.
As for the steering linkage hitting, its because the TRF shocks you've put on are too long. They're not letting the car sit low enough and hence the steering links are hitting the chassis. It's a common problem with any M03 that's sitting too high. Centre to centre your shocks need to be around 47mm or so at ride height.

i just ground down a section of the gear case a little big, no big deal, doesn't hurt anything, just don't go too far.

3 holes for me.
5mm might be a touch high - if the mini starts traction rolling - drop it down a little a see if that helps it out
Some people swear by sway bars - i had them on my mini and didn't feel any difference in the car, so took them off again!

If you're running on rug the roll bars will help keep you from rolling over.
