It's close enough to 48p to mesh with it (poorly) that the Americans tend to refer to it as the metric version of 48p. The rest of the world cringes.

How is it close? 48p is 0.53 metric, it meshes poorly with 0.5, with 0.6 it won't mesh at all... 42p on the other hand can be used with 0.6 metric without issues

It's close enough that I've seen a guy put 48p pinions in their car while using a 0.6 mod spur, not realise they don't match, and the car completed several race days. It made a bit of noise (not as much as you might think though) which eventually prompted an experienced racer to come over and look at it (looking for stones or other damage to the gears) and he didn't notice by eye they were the wrong pitch. I was pitted next to him at that time and I asked where he got the spur from. He said it came from his Tamiya (he was running a Schumacher at the time) and that's when I realised it was the wrong pitch.

Guys our club is going from the gray to the black capet this season the tires of choice was Sweep 33f and 25r, should we run 40f and 33r or 40's all the way around on the higher grip black carpet?

Help on a M05 for racing
 

Hi,
Winter is coming and I thought to buy an M05 R to play with at the local indoor track. I will be the only one driving it, as those people are dead set on the finest 4WD sedans. I do own a T4 2014 which I drive in the lame season to have fun and stay trained, as I mostly drive 1/8 buggy in the outdoor season.
There is also a local M-chassis championship which is a bit far and has a lot of rules (like Orion electronics etc...) and I might end up checking it.
The T4 is awesome but a bit aseptic in my opinion. I would like something more... looney.
I'm sure this has been asked zillion times, however this thread is huge and I hope you can help me. My questions are:
1) On my black carpet local track we use Ride and Volante sedan tires: which M-compatible tires should I take with me?
2) I would like to recycle the T4 electronic on the M05R. Can I install my savox low profile servo, my LRP 13.5 combo and the Hardcase Lipo 2S?
3) Which pinion is needed to proper gear such system in blinky mode?
4) What essential parts I need to add for track driving? I saw the kit does not come with the spongy front bumper, for example...
5) Finally, which and how many spares?

You should have said something when i spoke up on the local racing threads lol. Everyone now has lovely m05 paper weights. Ive seen some crazy things, but someone trading a 07 for two or three 05's, id be rather surprised.

I sold my M05 last month without any hassle. It's still a good car.

I agree, ...I raced my M05 against an entire field of M07's last month and still managed to get 3rd, beating many M07's. I have my M07 built, just haven't had any race time on it (been too busy w/ work, life and kids). ...I don't think from talking to others at the track that the M07 is worlds and worlds better than the M05, ..in fact the M05 is still a very good car and in the right hands can be just as competitive as an M07. ...I heard the same thing about the M03's when the M05's came out ...yet we still have a few guys racing M03's ...one was a top driver a few years back beating all the M05's. The car isn't going to make the driver.

I am keeping my M05 as a backup ...it seems to happen about 2x a season that a car will just crap out on me ...either an ESC goes bad, etc... and always happens 1/2hr before the next event w/o enough time to get it ready and thus I miss that race. Now i'll have a backup that is always ready to go.

In fact, if some European has a nice M05 to sell I will consider it.
I value bearings, cvd, aluminium shocks and aluminium parts where it counts.

Key difference for me for the M07 is the ease of maintenance, ease of tuning, and material. The performance will never be that different unless there is a big difference in weight distribution, tire, geometry, transmission, and precision. In short M07 makes it a lot easier to be on top of the car than M05 which makes it a lot better. A well prepped M05 will perform about the same as a well prepped M07.
