hi guys . im looking to buy an MX5 kit for local racing.we arent allowed to mod the car at all cept tires and pinion,
i cant seem to find many wheels around for reasonable prices..where do you get yours from? i see HPI wheels for sale in different offsets. Which offset is the correct one for the mx5 shell?
Is the MX5 shell a good shell or is something like the CRX better to get for the same money?

I've been getting lots of M05 parts from these guys. Scroll down the page to see parts.

Tamiya 58593 M05 Ver.II PRO Chassis Kit - M05-V2

Yup. TQ is awesome. As for pinion, try to get either the fluorine coated Tamiya one, or one of the other hardened models that are available. )Kawada, Yeah Racing, etc) The stock pinions are garbage and will chew up the plastic gears in short oter.

Hi Gang, new to Mini racing here.

Quick question (which I'm sure has been asked numerous times before):

*Are there any comprehensive lists for recommended upgrades for TCS racing? I just purchased a stock M05 rolling chassis.

*Any recommendations on an ideal battery pack for TCS racing? Brand and model would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Rich.

Ball bearings and oil filled shocks (with matching springs) are at the top of the list. After that, aluminium steering rack upgrades. The front upright shock tower is also popular. Depending on what rules you run, some kind of diff upgrade (TA03 ball diff, oil filled gear diff, or just add AW grease and some more shims to the stock gear diff). And get the hardened fluorine pinion as the stock one wears out fast and chews the spur.

If you want to use rectangular batteries, also consider the v2 A parts tree and the v2 aluminium motor mount.

You don't need everything on this list, these are just the most common upgrades with the biggest impact.

Thanks for the list!

I would agree w/ everything Gigaplex recommended, but would move square shorty pack battery somehwere towards the top of the list as a must have upgrade to be competitive. If your running the standard M05 (not VII M05) then you are running a rounded lipo. You have like two choices in that battery size and the batteries are the longer types that stick out of the chassis. W/ a shorty pack you have tons of battery options, and can get a battery that is most likely lighter in weight and the battery will stay tucked in the chassis which I feel improves handling. Upgrade to the M05 VII and get a shorty pack!

Can please someone post a pic of a shorty lipo installed. I bought a used M05 with some V2 parts installed and it's time to get my battery situation figured out.

bertrandsv87 02-28-2017 09:00 AM

Hope they make rounded shorties....

On a related note, is it possible to use the "A" parts tree from a Ver II on an original M05 to make it LiPo shorty compatible?

Yes. I'd also get the v2 aluminium motor mount too, but others have said the original plastic one will work okay. The v1 aluminium one does have interference issues with the steering rack though when used with the v2 A parts.

Thanks for the info!
