Wouldn't take long on a lathe.
Is the idea to reduce friction by reducing contact between the gears? I'm curious now. By reducing the gear width by half, you'd have half the surface touching, but double the pressure. Hmmmm.....

holy cow!! that is crazzzy.
yeah, why take off so much ?? Reduced friction, that makes sense ...would that make a big difference? I am curious too.

I was not wow-ing at the amount of labor, I was wow'ed too by how much the person took off! That just appears quite unnecessary to take that much off.

I have found a m05v1 and need some setup carpet help. What page should I be looking at? Or could some one post up 1 up.
I'm going to order a gear dif.
Any tips would be grateful
Thanks

I had my m05v2 working well on the weekend. However, my Yeah Racing long span ark kit arrived yesterday, so I installed it. Hopefully the car still works well; I'd really hate to have ruined the cars handling.
The rear of the car is much wider than the front now. Also, the car is much softer now due to the change in leverage ratio. I ended up installing much stiffer Springs in the front and rear to compensate.
Will try it out tonight at practice.

Edit: everything fit together well.... I'm pretty happy with the kit, especially for $65. Biggest issue I've run into is bump steer.... the front toes in a bunch under compression. I raised the ball studs on the steering blocks 3.2mm which has helped a lot.

Sounds good, DBM. I know it's always risky swapping parts when you have a good setup, but at least you can revert to where you were just in case. :D

I have a lot of misc error bits laying around from trial and error. lol

DBM 03-30-2016 07:52 AM

I just may end up reverting back, although I'm not sure if I'll have time before this weekends WCICS event. Maybe I should have left the m05 alone and installed the long arm kit on my m06. :/

Experimenting with some different tires and wheels. Turns out that the white sweep wheels are much stiffer than the yellow sweep wheels.
Also, the white sweep wheels are larger in diameter than the tamiya swift wheels, which causes the tread surface of the slicks to be concave....not good. The m-grips are flat on the sweep wheels, and nicely rounded on the tamiya wheels. The tamiya wheels are also wider, stiffer, but slightly heavier.

sakadachi 03-30-2016 11:43 AM

Yeah, I tried the Sweeps once, but I just run the Tamiya Mini Cooper wheels and PitShimizu 55mm's on all my m-chassis now.

DBM 03-30-2016 11:49 AM

I bought pit shimizu's and tamiya mini cooper wheels for a friends ABC Genetic. Nice tires. Unfortunately the series that I run in limits us to stock gearing and max 20t pinion, tamiya branded tires/inserts,and spec orca 2200kv motor; so we have to run the 60D tires in order to have speed on the straights.
Going forward, if I continue to run mini, I'll likely just stick with tamiya wheels and 60D s-grips.

does anyone have a copy, or can get a copy/scan/whatever, of the M05 ball diff directions?

I somehow lost mine and trying to rebuild my diff and am having a 'senior' moment

thanks!
