Antolckyer -is that the same photo that was in your album? Or did you make an adjustment to your car and post a new photo?

Is your club running the stock silvercan only?
Also, eventually you may want to get shocks w/ adjustable collars ...you'll be able to really fine tune your ride height. Also, is that a lipo or NiMH your using? I used a rounded lipo w/ my silvercan a few years ago when we all had to run silvercans and the M05VII wasn't out. LIpo's are much much lighter than a NiMH, -that will really help you to shave a lot of weight. My car is at 1318 right now, 18 over the min weight. I am trying to shave an extra 10grams and keep it at 1305-1308 to keep the tech people happy and account for a gram or two in scale differences (between the scale I use and the tech people may use).

I currently only run Pit Shimizu, the classic 55mm. I like how they are actually radial tires inside the rubber.
Pit's are great tires ...I use them on my F1.

I couldn't get it to sit securely on my motor. Its like it needs high temp tape to keep it glued in place. -hey there is an idea, maybe I'll give it another go? My F1 currently has no fan and no heatsink ...but runs a 21.5 and timing is turned way down ...it doesn't need speed so temps are always low. ...

I like that motor heatsink. I use a little strip of double sided tape (just regular thin tape) and it helps keep the heatsink in place. :) And the fins get very hot too, so the tape does not appear to have much impact.

Well, I've been to one race in my life and that was last week. I broke my car early on so didn't get much time with it.

Observations from running 25s front and rear were it had a bunch of oversteer. However I wasn't using additive on the tyres at all. I've since change the setup to be lower, much softer at the back and put 33s on the front. I will run Nosram additive as well just on the rears.

I just took it for a bash outside my house and without additive it seems to handle pretty well but could swap ends very easily on or off power. Will see how I do on the carpet with a proper track.

Yeah, I special ordered from Pit directly. Bought like 50 pairs or something. :D They did a fresh run for me, so the tires are literally new. (not some old white powdery stock at a store).

Sounds good, and you have the right idea swapping tires front/back when things are too loose on the tail. GL at the next race. :D

Same picture.

I'm in F2 which is stock silver can at one club and club handout silver cans at the other.

Formula 2:

Tamiya silver can motors only
Silver can motors from other manufacturers such as Mardave are not permitted
Motors must not be tampered with in any way such as altering the timing

Other F1 and F2 Rules:
Geared or ball diffs permitted
Any Mini tyre on a 42mm rim (no double inserts or foam tyres)
Any 2 wheel drive Tamiya mini (M03, M05, M06 including Pro versions)
Maximum size pinion: 20T
Speed tuned/fast gearsets are not permitted
Chassis modifications to the battery hole are not permitted
It is a NiMH that I bought to get up and running as cheaply as I could to see if I was going to stick with it. I'm 41 and have wanted to race RC cars forever, this is really the first chance in my life to really do it.

After 1 race I'm hooked and will be getting Lipos soon. I'm taking my 7 year old daughter to the Sunday race in 2 weeks, I'm hoping she can take to it too.

Sounds good.

I still use the old battery chemistry (NiCd & NiMH) along side my Lipo's because I can keep them charged and just drive during the week nights without worrying about puffed or self-combusting Lipo's. :D

NiMH is definitely a good set to have especially the round packs for bashing. NiCd is fine if you have the side-by-sides like the one I have in the M-Rage picture above. That battery pack is from pre-2000. :D haha

+1 to what Sakadachi said, ...I tried every tire combo!! Settled on my sig' slicks + s grips combined. As for tire additive, I only use it on my slicks in the front ...I found that it sits in the grooves of the S-grips and never really wears off completely ...made my tires actually less grippy in the rear. Again, try everything and take notes. I keep track of everything ...motor temps, track conditions, my controller settings, and of course everything on the car down to every detail. This way you can really see every little change and what effect it makes.

I have a rounded lipo I never use ...it is still perfect ...I let another driver use it last year, ...if you live near the SF bay area I'll give it to you for free. Otherwise I dont' think i can ship a battery in the mail. ;) Do you live near the SF bay area?

Hi Scot, Ivan whoever.

I had to get new tires for the Mini, and again I got S-Grips.

The question is this; for some reason I bought the blue 60D inserts (soft) Before I glue everything; is this the right way to go? This is for the front clearly and before I was using 60D, but the insert was black; I'm assuming harder. The tires seemed worn mostly in the middle, the inner edge had more wear than the outer (ca applied edge) which really had none.

I did read one person had blue inserts rear and firmer inserts front.

Anyway your thoughts would be appreciated but keep in mind I don't think I had really any issues with grip last year. I'm tempted to go with status quo and forget about the blue.

I prefer the hard gray inserts. But the blue ones work just as well. How you glue the outter edge of the front tires will make more of a difference, and can compensate, for the actual insert being used.

In keeping with his low-cost-theme this year, I believe Ivan replaced his foam inserts with toilet paper. LoL

What ply was that?

patorz31 03-23-2016 12:01 PM

Ivan would take one 2ply roll and make 2 single ply rolls......
