Thanks for filling in the blanks for me. I guess what I'm pondering is if Tamiya might come away from an experience like this and re-think their product strategy when it comes time to release an M07. I'm hoping they track back towards the pure simplicity of the earlier chassis.

Granpa, Glad to hear you had a good time at TCS Nats. I hope to be at the TCS quals next year in down south. I was asked to come with some of the LHS guys but funds did not allow. Plus the mini was just not on point to even try. I plan on being there next year. The car thanks to your help has been driving great.

Just got the JCW body and will see how that goes with hope it is currently setup.

I was kinda curious about this myself. I look at the M05, and I can't help but think that it's more complicated than it has to be. What made/makes the M03 so great is it was easy to go fast. It's simple. I'm just happy they still allow them at TCS ( whsich also suprises me, seeing as how it's not a current car anymore). At this point, I'll probably just wait until a new car arrives to move away from the M03, unless, of course, I'm forced to. :tire:

The M05 could be a simple car, but somewhere along the way, someone decided that more small pieces stuck together are better than a few large ones. Don't get me started on the M06. There are more screws in the rear of that thing than in my whole M03. Yikes!

Imagine an M05 with a simplified chassis. Two pieces for the rear, two for the front. Chassis spacers (a la M03) in the middle for the different wheelbases...it makes me drool a little. The bellcrank steering could stay. It's easy enough and can be further simplified with a little creativity.

I've just got my 3racing gear diff today, it's going into my M05.

I've got 100k oil on the way. Are there any hints/tips that anyone can share? sosidge, you mentioned that it's a good idea to run it in as the seals are tight. Did you just drive the car a lot or connect up one end of the diff to a drill/electric screwdriver?

I only learnt how much the seals would wear in after running it. If I was building one again, I would probably put it in the car with only the seals lubricated and set up a way of holding one of the wheels still and running the motor. You could perhaps work out a way of doing the same with a drill and clamp.

I'll do as you suggest (put the diff in the car). That way it will be running at the correct speed.

One strange thing, the side of the diff with the two bearings in is stiffer than the other side (if that makes sense). Not what I'd expect.

There were no, I repeat, no M06 chassis cars at the Nationals. I believe there was only one M05 in the A Mains.

To fresnojay, you should try to make it down to the Tamiya track before next years TCS races. 8 of the guys in the top 10 are home based there. You'll learn more from one day there than you will in several races. Much of what I post is a compendium of knowledge, tips, tricks that floats freely in the group. It should be fun for you learn from some of the quicker guys and not just the old guy.

SilverShelby won Best in Show with an outrageous M03S. Nice guy and can really paint. Also made the A so knows his way around the track.

M03 is still alive

it is good to hear that the M03 is alive, but there isn't not one single national TCS M03 winning set up sheet on website or on Mini thread, now why it that?

I just don't get guys throwing a RWD body onto a FWD chassis...racing is racing, but what about the realism?!!
