So for those late to the party, why are M03s better than M05s?
Guess I could do a search... |
[QUOTE=Sydewynder;11405427]C'mon Bob. Look at the name Jim wrote that's in the quote that I quoted from.[/QUOTE
Okay. Gotcha.

Guess I could do a search... 2. Cheaper with fewer upgrade parts 3. Sturdier with fewer parts 4. Much easier to set up 5. Easier to work on 6. Carries more corner speed on most tracks With all that, it is just the quicker car. |
M03 has more weight on the front tires, and I feel that's an advantage(if setup properly), in braking, acceleration, turn in, etc.... Also less weight in the rear makes the rear rotate better in my M03....

a few bad things about m03
higher tendency to traction roll wears out front tyres quicker limitation of bodies |
That could just be my M03 that traction rolls ... stupid 60D tyres
I always thought that the M05 was more for touring car drivers ... or people that like endless adjustments on their mini. Hey Granpa, the guy from Australia that swears by 300,000wt diff oil ... I think that's the same guy that was swearing by 500 - 600,000K oil only 12 months ago :) |

It was radical when we first started using it, but many of the guys are converts now. It's time for a change. You are so right about the constant tinkering you need to do with the M05. It's either right or awful. The M03 has a little bigger tuning envelope. Under certain conditions tho, the M05 will be quicker than the 03. I have an 05 that's just an absolute "killer" at a certain track, but is ordinary every where else. |

Yeah, Tim. This stuff seems to just go that way. 500k oil and gear diffs, then ball diffs 6months later. Whatever the fast guy is running and what people presume is what's making him fast. Might not be what's doing it, but what the hell, you know.
having won just about everything, ive never used 500 or 300k oil so i dont know who all these people are copying  |

aussierevo,
Ask him at the Nats for his setup. Might be the wrong time to ask though. Yeah, I believe Tim was talking about me. I have not used 500 000 wt oil for nearly twelve months. I have found 300 000 wt is more useful for me in the 3Racing oil gear diff. Less wear on the alloy outdrives and more corner speed and less push. I will more than likely use that at the Nats, as for the rest of my car setup nowhere near Brads or Tims. Especially seeing Tim will be using is MO3 more than likely. I will be happy just to make the A final and hopefully enjoy myself. My car seems good here in Sydney, but a new track and unknown grip levels will certainly make for a slight revision in setup. Though it is all do with the shocks and tyre selection. Tim, Looking forward to catching up again. My mini will be the slow one with the L plate. I am certainly not in Brads league or yours. Later, 50 Cal |
C'mon Cal, you've had that L plate on for a few years now ... you'll be on the pace. I'm fairly sure you beat me in the last final at the 2011 indoor champs.
I expect you to be in the top 3 at the Nats ... but with all the superior M05L's I'll be lucky to scrape into the A with my tired old M03S ... SWB just isn't fast ;) |

if you don't mind sharing what you found works for you and why that would be appreciated. You don't have to share your body colour, but seeing as you have had success for a long period, an outdoor setup would be nice:sneaky:
but im sure i could have a look at your car up there and see if i can give you a few pointers |

but im sure i could have a look at your car up there and see if i can give you a few pointers looking forward to seeing you and Tim race next week and along with Cal who seems to also be at the pointy end of races. Will be good to see how it's done, and know doubt I will learn a thing or 14. Karl |
