Racenut, you might want to take a peek at the rules:
http://www.tamiyausa.com/events/tcs/pr.html
"Mini Sports will be using a handout Johnson silver canned closed end-bell motor. These motors will be handed out the day of the first day of qualifying. One motor per racer only will be given out."
I'm as surprised as you are!

Hey Dave!
The Johnsons are for Racing in Newark. Its too bad they wont let everyone just run whatever 540 they want @TCS.But it looks like Tamiya has made thier program for Nats totally Spec now.
Anyways we missed you last Hobbytown race.Man Mini is fun.

Yeah, I couldn't make the H-town race. We raced mini at RCCAR, though. My car is pretty dialled. Mike laid the smackdown on me at the start and I had to push to try to make up time and ended up going on my lid. It should be fun this weekend. Are you racing at TCS? We're heading down tomorrow night.

Just finished breaking in my new found old mabuchis. These old mabuchi sure sound like they have more rpm. One of the two mabuchi sure is a lot faster[kinda golden color can]. These motor have all plastic endbell and says mabuchi. It also has caps soldered on it. One came from a sand scorcher rear end and the other was from?[Not sure where that baby came from but it was the meanest mabuchi I ever ran]. I collect old Tamiyas and Kyosho so that freak motor probably was a kyosho mabuchi 540.It has 4 holes for the screws instead of the regular 2 holes. It also has round holes instead of the banana shape holes at the end of the can.Just ran it and it was fast.Way fast than any of my Tamiya Johnson or Mabuchi cans. We'll see next race.
