Converting Computer Power Supply. Who got it to work? Who didnt?
I know a couple of people got it working
but who didnt????

I did. I wired 3 PC power supplies in series. 15 volt/75amp output.

I have used a 300W AT supply for years. Had it modified to give out 15V instead of 12 (don't ask me how, I'm not strong enough in electronics to explain. Something to do with changing the resistors in feedback voltage divider). I have not found a single reason to quit using it.

I've done it for a half a year ago. Works nice.
In addition, we have about 20 in our club, which also work fine.

I have been using one for about 2 years now.
Nice clean power output.
I use the 12volt for chargers, etc. and 5 volt for running my lathe and motor break in.

Forgot to mention: the power supplies that don't work too well for conversion are the kinds that have the switch installed in the unit already. Most of them have some funny way of turning on the power, and makes it a hassle to wire up. So make sure the switch is on a harness.

I think the AT power supplies are preferable for conversion. I have also converted one for a Novak Millenium. Then I got a Tekin BC112 and shelved the power supply.
I'd really love to see how the 12V output can be jacked up to 18V or 20V. The Tekin Manual says a higher power supply voltage gives better results than 12V

i don have the stuffs to test that but i have been charging my batts at 6 amps and running a cooling fan thats drawing 0.5amps and its still very cool and stable....
